Is there a mod that will let you view the world map

Overviewer is also apparently a pretty good tool for this. Unmined looks nice, and it runs with 1.4.6. It doesn't quite have the colors down for mods (red stone for example is grey), but overall it works wonderfully.
 
Havent checked out overviewer. Good to know unmined works for 1.4.6 , playing off my crappy laptop right now and I have to run lean.

You, sir, are precognitive... that is the one I am currently working on. After that, a 'no-frills, getting started in minecraft with an FTB mod pack' guide, and a couple of others. Then I'll start churning out QuickTips at least three a week, if not more.
