Is my notebook good enough for FTB?

I'm planning to buy a notebook with these specs.

-Intel Core i7 3630QM 4x2,40GHz6MB L3 cache, 64bit,22nm!,
Hyper-Threading3,4GHz with TurboBoost,
(I have no idea what any of these numbers mean)
- 8GB DDR3 ram
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M z 2GB DDR3

Is this good enough to play FTB mindcrack on extreme render distance with decent fps?

On my old pc i could barely play on the lowest render distance...

Don't be riddicoulous, of course they can. Why would anyone produce a notebook that overheats when performing at its maximum capacity?

They only make the components to be ran at max capacity for every now and then so just use your resources moderately and it's shouldn't happen. But keeping it at full capacity for a couple of hours a day can. That why you don't host servers that run for 24/7 on home computers.

That's the same thing I thought about my HP, after a year I melted a hole clean through. Hope you enjoy Swiss cheese.

I was more careful about the selection of my second, making sure it had a better ventilation setup.

A word of advice, don't think that everything will always work as intended just look at the failure rate on the xbox 360, that level percentage of faulty products should never make it to market and actually succeed but guess what.....it did.

Intimidation aside it will probably be fine if they configured it properly.

It's a known fact computers (yes, notebooks too) can overheat when they are strained for long periods of time.
And notebooks suck for gaming, so yeah, it probably won't take much...

Does it have to be a laptop? A custom desktop for the price that thing is would be able to do a lot more for performance. And not much can run extreme at all, and it'd put way too much strain on it.

Yup I need a portable computer right now cause i'm going to study far away from home, and I don't have enough money to buy a pc and notebook.

Just buy one of those lap-pads to place your laptop on with integrates fans driven by usb, u should get one for 30dollarish. I had tempproblems with laptop before, but with one of these its surprisingly stable. (Shouldve gotten you a link but on my phone atm)

I bought a different notebook, same cp and ram but with Geforce gt 740m and better cooling system. I downloaded a program that shows temperature of every component, and plyed Skyrim for over 5 hours on high details , I was regulary checking the temperature and it never exceeded 80 C. Just for sure I installed few other programs that will warn me when it overheats. Problem solved

I'm well aware of the fact that desktops can be easilly upgraded and are better than laptops in pretty much every aspect, but I need a mobile computer and I want to play games but I can't afford to buy desktop for gaming and laptop for taking notes, and doing whatever i'm gonna do while studying computer science. So i had to buy a laptop.
