Hi, I have just switched from tekkit to FTB because of it's 1.4.2 support. I was surprised to see that redpower and thaumcraft on the list of supported mods and I gave it a shot. I have updated my server to ftb as a result. To my surprise, I noticed that redpower has not been implemented into the latest release and it was still stuck on 1.2.5. I heard that redpower will be finished soon and I'm wondering whether or not I should just play on my current world and restart it when redpower/thaumcraft have been fully implemented into the game or if I should just wait it out.

If anyone knows a rough eta for the next release of redpower/thaumcraft/ftb in general (ie: next week, next month, or 2013 if we're still alive) please tell me.

I understand that the mod owners have been working their asses off on these mods especially with the frequent updates of Mojang so I am in no way miffed about the lack of these mods in the current release.

Well, Eloraam is like Valve, she releases it perfectly or she doesn't release it. Thaumcraft/EE3 aren't finished yet.

My opinion: for ssp, you could do a temporary map, do some farms/automated stuff, get to known the pack, and when it is released, you do a new map (and server also)

What I did was start a world and at spawn cheated in a Mystcraft Notebook then wrote myself an age to play in until Xycraft (worldgen), and Redpower are ready so the only non-generated chunks will be those right at spawn and considering I tend to move up to a few thousand blocks from spawn it's not a biggie. Not worrying about Thaumcraft I have seen in several places that Azanor has a nice little thingy in his mod that will generate his worldgen stuff in a pre-existing world.

Well Redpower2 and the XYCraft-Worldgen should be out pretty soon. Thaumcraft needs propably longer since it is most likely not stable enough for a release. But yes, it seems as if Azanor repopulate existing worlds with his ores, which could be really funny, since it can replace all smoothstone with ores :p

It really depends on what you are looking for.

Personally I want to build my base around, on and in one of the RedPower Volcanoes.
That leaves me with the options of starting now and then having to move everything by hand over thousands of blocks and rebuilding everything or starting over with a new world.
The actual gathering of ores isn't an issue as Mystcraft makes gathering anything basically effortless.

My play time is already very limited so I have no desire to waste it all traveling and re-building everything. There is no reason to not start a new game if all you are worried about is gathering ores.

It is my understanding that TC will be so vastly different from the last version that waiting on it is pointless.

It really is just a matter of if you would rather wait and keep playing your other games or not.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
It depends on your play style

For me; I'm waiting- RP is a major part of my build style and architectural design. (for the most part I'm pratting about in my test worlds trying out different designs- like organic powerplants)

Thaumcraft and XYcraft have back tracking terrain gen- so installing them later wont need more exploration/new age. And EE doesnt have custom terrain (so no worries ... for the rest of our days.... Its our problem free - philosophy ... sorry)

HAKUNA MATATA :D :D :D

-ahem- Anyway, yeah, this. I'm mostly waiting on RedPower, and playing with some of the new stuff in flat worlds while I wait. Specifically Factorization, GregTech, and Steve's Carts.

I'm basically wasting time, trying experiments and odd things until Redpower is out, I wont be investing serious time or going for big builds until it out, at which point I will create a new world.

I seriously can't wait for Redpower and Thaumcraft. I keep trying to play but then I keep thinking I might as well put it off until the pack's complete. The only problem now is I'm bored :/

Thaumcraft does. XyCraft doesn't. Soaryn said he didn't want to add it as there are possibilities it could cause complications in existing worlds.
