Is it possible to use new Vanilla launcher for FTB (1.5.2)?

Personally I dislike the FTB launcher, and wanted to use old packs on the new Mojang launcher. However, forge seems to want to load from the base mods folder instead of instances. Is there any way around this?

You can create a new profile and go into the settings. As Minecraft version select the Forge version you installed, any Java runtime parameters you need and pick the directory you want.

Launch MC one time and it will create the directory with the Config and Mods folders in it. (Pre 1.6 it will also create a Core folder I think?)

Copy the mods and configs from the FTB launcher over and you should be running with the exact mods and configuration as in the FTB launcher.

Except it uses the ones in the base .minecraft folder, not the custom instance folder.

I've just tried it, you are right. Forge 7.8.1.738 and it uses indeed the .minecraft folder. Which is strange, because the same steps/settings work without problems in 1.6.2.

I guess MultiMC would then be another option?

Maybe, I was hoping for a unified launcher. Also, did the new IC2 updates ever make their way into 1.5.2?

The way Minecraft is launched changed significantly with 1.6.x. Which is the reason FTB hasn't released anything with 1.6.x yet... the current FTB launcher doesn't work with that Minecraft version. The same reason may be responsible, in the other way around, for locking 1.5.x instances to the vanilla Minecraft directory. Maybe that version simply lacks something the vanilla launcher needs that was only introduced in 1.6.x.
