So this is something I've been working on for a week or two, inspired by all the people who are stuck with getting started. :) It's a tutorial map for anyone who is just starting to use mods, or doesn't know what to do with FTB. You need to use the Ultimate pack version 1.0.2. I used it because it's probably the most future-proof, and covers the most mods.

It introduces the player to most of the features in FTB, explains them and shows examples of how things can be used. First taking the you through a brief tour, and then lets you explore through examples and tutorials in a small town (pictured above) on your own.

Let me know if there is something that should be added or changed. There was a lot of writing to do, and Minecraft books kind of suck, so I might have forgotten things and made a lot of typos. :p
I'm done with the map for now, but I'll update it sometime when I'm more motivated than now.

I don't know if Dropbox is a good way to share the map, but it's easy for updating it for now in case there's some big problems. I also doubt it will get so many downloads that they have to close the file.

To-do:
Known typos:
- Books 11 and 11.1 both have a typo on their second pages.
- Multiblock farm book says "harch" instead of "hatch".
- Mystcraft book says "custo age" instead of "custom age".

Problems/things to change:
- Tutorial for pneumatic tubes.
- Edit beer book a bit.
- Quick note about backpacks and carriable item bags
- Forgot to mention frames for bee breeding
- Also forgot to point out the beehives from world generation
- Mention railcraft signaling
- Forgot to explain what writing table does

It's a good effort, and I want to firmly congratulate your dedication to actually releasing a comprehensive tutorial map in a finished, playable form. The style is naturalistic and the decision to feature it at the center of a realistic world is always a nice touch when executed correctly, which I think you managed to do.

However, I personally found your transportation system (linkbooks) and your interfacing (written books and signs) to be slightly cumbersome. I personally prefer command blocks and computer monitors but those can be fiddly to establish.

Still, nice job, dude. I like it.

I wonder how many other people are considering, or are in the process of, creating tutorial maps like this.

Alright well, in your underground mine... Aluminum ore is currently used to craft Aluminum Torches. A torch with a brightness level of 15. It can also be used to create empty cans which can be useful for storing liquids and placing them in machinery.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

I wanted to use monitors, but I figured it's not worth the effort for me, since I'm doing this mostly for fun. I used signs when there was something small or less important.

I tried to build everything in naturally generated environment, because I felt it's easier to deal with gives a better perspective to things than just a row of square houses or something. It also helps me use the most ideal terrain without having to do some major land modeling.

I know, but I said there isn't many uses considering that there's a huge excess of that ore underground and it only has 2 common uses; the ones you mentioned. Aluminum torches are a bit expensive too.

Awesome job with this map. I downloaded the map to review what I know and learn about the mods I didn't know. I just finished the linear part of the tutorial and am taking a break. I noticed a few things about the with the early books I wanted to point out though.
Book [5] Processing typo on ingredients on page 3
book [7.2+] Engines typo: i instead of if on page 1
Book [7.5] Charge needs updating

Edit: Got a bit further and have read most of the books. Haven't read the any in the beekeeping desk, either of the desks in the cave that has tons of carts, or done the computercraft tutorial yet. I found several more typos and etc. Here they are:
Book "Multiblock Stuff" typo: p1 siply -> simply
Book "Charge" typo: p2 aroun -> around
book "Ore Processing" mistake: p3 mixer should be crystalizer
book "Pipe Gates" typo: IF -> if
book "Colored Holes" typo: fro -> from
book "Forestry Things" typo: isthen -> is then
book "Multiblock Farms" typo: harch -> hatch?
book "Sickle" could use expanding. At least include grass.
book "Refinery" typo: p1 befilled -> be filled
book "Refinery" typo: p2 quire -> quite
book "Item Network" typo: p1 quire -> quite

add more Aqua Regia to crystalizer or chest
Twilight forest section kind of hidden

I played around with this map for a few hours and totally enjoyed learning about different things, it will surely give me a solid base to start my own world in FTB. Well done and kudos to you.

2 Aluminum + 2 Glass in an Induction Smelter now makes Viewer Glass, which doesn't have those annoying frames when stacked together.
