I've never seen one of these before and they're not mentioned on the wiki. At first I thought it was a variation of the Lich tower but now I'm not so sure. I think it might be something new. Note that it doesn't show up on the map yet so it's probably very WIP.

Found this the other day. Mushroom Towers, I believe. It's a work in progress.

I originally found discussion of it here (researching after I ran across two in about 10 minutes) and then found a few more posts on the minecraft forums topic confirming it's a WIP.

I tried making a base inside but it was annoying renovating it as everything breaks so easily.

I love this mod, but I find it hard not to cheat when trying to climb the dark tower. I've yet to legitly make my way to the top. I get about half way, then one of those insects grabs me and throws me to my death, or its pitch black in one of those "no build" zones... with no way to really get by it because you can't see and there's no lamps nearby. Even cheating, as in, when I die I TP back up to where I died, it still took me over 2 hours to climb it!

If I ever had to go through that nightmare again, i'd probably just take 30 stacks of cobble and build straight up on the outside of the tower, which would take 1/10th of the time of actually climbing it...

I wonder if a Wrath Lamp or an Arcane Lamp would work to light up those rooms. You should be able to shoot moonworms through the no-build-zone to stick on the ceiling above.

p.s. those huge 'shrooms look awesome. Are they on the major feature grid?

Just load the new thaumcraft 4.1 and convert the mushrooms to warded blocks. Then you can't accidentally destroy it while renovating. It will take an awful lot of vis and clicks though.

They seem to be.

If only the game had some kind of night vision effect so you could see in total darkness.

It's pretty easy with a Portal gun or a Portable hole, especially with a jetpack.

That Mushroom structure though, would make the best base ever. I've got to do a twilight forest survival again.

Keep in mind that, on the mushroom tower thing, (at least the one I started trying to renovate a bit) that the walkways don't tend to match up with where you'd expect them to.

Eg. You make a doorway into a mushroom tower and it has an oak floor when you get in. The walkway between that structure and the next one over is not lined up symmetrically east/west or north/south and it might be three blocks above the floor level. No biggie and I only really checked out one.
