Interesting start to a new hardcore world

Started a new DW20 hardcore game tonight, and got off to an ... interesting ... start.

That aside, nice indeed. In regards to how I'd do it:

Just build a 2x2 spiral staircase downwards, of course. Likely wood, from the looks of that expiring leaf block.

From the look of it I'd say you made a line of dirt until above the lake then dropped in it.

Tried the seed myself, there is a pool of water you can *just* barely reach by sprint-jumping.

Or you could have just bridged out a little with dirt, destroy the bridge behind you, and jumped into one of the lakes.

A water buck--- Oh bother, new start. Ok, new plan: Your jetpac--- Oh gods, what the heck am I ever going to do if I restart?

Oh, right, live on that small island, hoping I can survive off of that one tree, and any tall grass I can find.

That aside, pillaring over to the water could work.

Skyblock challenge time!

The tree gives you a renewable source of blocks. With these you can build a simple mob farm. You have enough stone to make a furnace. Get enough golden armor drops from the mobs to combine into a full piece, which you can smelt into ingots in the furnace. If you're playing DW20, you can get minium shards off the mobs. Use the shards, the gold, and some stone to get a minium stone. Transmute the logs into iron into enderpearls. Throw an enderpearl to get off the island. Pillar up and clean up everything for the screenshot.

That's a lot to get done in your first day Abdiel.

I did see the water a bit out there, but remember this is a hardcore game. I didn't want to risk the jump. Yeah, pillaring out over the water probably would have worked, but that wasn't what I did.

Okay let's see.

One of the trees on the ground is a survivable fall. But if it was this simple you probably wouldn't have posted this.
There is gravel on the island (not visible in the screenshots, but you explicitly gave the seed to find out), you could have dropped that on the ground or on some of the trees to break your fall.
If you happen to be good at parkour, you could have done a ladder drop. There are no very good spots for it, but it's possible.
For that matter, even a boat drop would be enough to get down. This is probably the easiest option.


[edit] You have 47 gravel on your bar in the 2nd picture. Very unusual for the first day. So I'm leaning towards option 2.

Ha, yeah I noticed the gravel on my bar after posting the shots. Good catch. Like any good minecrafter, I dug into my little island and it was filled with gravel. Took about 30-40 to pillar down. Not something I wanted to worry about on my first hardcore day. You know, food, cobble for tools, wool for a bed, coal for light my first night in my hole ... not a wtf, how to I get down from here!!
