MFFS tunnel bore needs AE's transition plane blocks but the idea is interesting if it works with TE's block breakers... I always wondered if you can go big with it and turn your own tunnel bore into an actual base

Why would it need those? I think you just need some block breaker. I guess transition panes are just very handy because they digitalize stuff immediately, and that means a lot less piping.

Well, when I used TE it just flat-out crashed for me. I had controller derps for AE, but it might work now, I dunno.

I like the functionality of Steve's Carts, but setting up is so slow & complicated that I rarely bother. Right now I am using 4 arcane bores (still a pain in the *** to make, but the hot new toy is the hot new toy) mounted on the underside of an Archimedes Ships airship feeding into an ME system through ender chests. The ship does tend to kick diagonally 1 block when you dismount, so keeping centered when you move can take some effort & centering a pump over an oil well hardly seems worth the effort, but can be done.

Well, that's the most interesting auto mining solution I've heard of so far! Could you make a showcase of that beast? I messed around a bit with AS, but I got annoyed with trying to find things that worked properly with it.

Some notes on working with AS:
-Tile entities will maintain orientation when you rotate the ship. An engine pointing north will still point north after you turn your ship around. Either be prepared to rotate all the things or always park facing the same way.
-Things using IC2 power (like solar panels & electric engines) may need to be picked up & put back down to get the power flowing.
-TE's ducts & conduits HATE being moved. Trying will either break them or crash the game. I haven't tried tesseracts or buildcraft pipes.
-Enderchests work just fine for sending things home to be processed. If you want a big, mobile base, you are on your own.
-Chunk loaders & open portal gun portals CAN be moved. Surprised the heck out of me...
-The balloon blocks burn just as easily as the wool they are made from. keep your distance from lava & fire.
-The ship will try to attach any connected block, so park it in the air, in the water, or on shore buffers. If it is touching anything else, you will have to dig it out or tear it down & rebuild it.
-You may not be able to automate it (moving the ship), but I still like it better than RP2 frames.
-How many blocks in a slime island? I might have to try bringing 1 down to earth with 1 (cheap & easy) helm block...

Thaumcraft note: it takes 3 jars of essentia to repair each pickaxe, so I moved that part back to base & automated it, interfacing through an enderchest.

Nice! I had no idea portals would actually work on a ship! That really makes things a lot more feasible to make a moving base, since you could have an easy way to and from. I'd tried Dimensional Doors, but they didn't like being moved. Mystcraft I figured I'd have to make a new link book back any time I moved. It's good to have a solution.

Similarly, I didn't realize strong boxes worked. That seems like a good storage solution, since I've heard Iron Chests goes a bit wonky when rotated (they change gold to iron and such). I'm curious if I could get a Logistics Pipes setup on one since I know BuildCraft pipes are supposed to play well on them.

Anyway, to keep from dragging this off the original topic, would you mind cross posting this to the Archimedes Ships thread? There's also some more testing info there. Generally, it seems like the best solution is to always park in the same direction.

If you like the idea of Computercraft but find it too OP, there's always Opencomputers: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2201440-opencomputers-v113/

Additionally, MFFS has a frame equivalent as well as the capacity to mine blocks, so that can be used to quarry stuff.

There's also obviously the IC2 miner.

Or, if you wanna get REALLY fancy and go all-out on the engineering front, your best bet is to use a frame mod (MFFS, Redstone in Motion, Truss mod) with some kind of block breaker. (AE transition planes, Expanded Redstone block breakers, TE terrain smashers)
