I have wanted a small private server I could play Infinity on for some time but shudder at the thought of paying $20-$40 month for it. If you are interested in co-owning an infinity server and sharing the cost 50/50, send me a private message and we can work out the details.

I prefer to play infinity + galacticraft, but would be willing to discuss it.

You know paying halves might STILL have you paying 40-60$ unless you are fine with a cruddy performing server that starts to lag past 3 players.
For modded MC you tend to need mid level server packages at the very least.
Then again US servers might be tonnes cheaper. Im Aussi and local server hire is super expensive. A server with 12 gig set me back 150$ AUD a month, wasn't even dedicated...
Suffice to say I don't run a server anymore.

You can get a sufficiently performing service if you paid decently for it. The reason you may of heard/had problems with shared providers is because they are generally the cheaper ones that cramp up their nodes to make a margin. He is indeed at correct pricing range for a small private server to operate Infinity on (2GB I heard is enough for 3 people and you won't likely need more than 4GB if it just a small server).

You are correct about Aussi pricing because their bandwidth and colocation servicing (to place nodes inside a reliable data center) is not cheap at all.

It's also because Aussi net infrastructure is garbage. You can only find worse internet in places that don't actually have Internet infrastructure and have to use satellite.
Might get better though, Netflix has gotten a beachhead in the Aussi streaming market now.
So as more punters sign up for their on demand movies the average joe might start to see getting a fiber network up and running benefits them now. And they will stop opposing government plans to Improve said infrastructure.

I was under the impression that a 3-4g server for 2-3 people running infinity was more than enough, perhaps I am misinformed?

For vanilla the rule of thumb is that you need 100ish Mb per player. So for vanilla 1gig could cover 10 players. But modded MC depending on what mods are on bump that per player requirement up significantly. Ive heared servet owners state they need 512meg per player but that might be an error on their part.
You also need to take the non player processing in to account.

If using the 512/player method, 3 people could play on a 3g server and still have half of the resources left over. -IF- it is true, that sounds reasonable to me.

A saying from the 80's...

"Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of quarter-inch tapes".

Here's the story:
