Details of the issue Hello,

I tried to download and run the current FTB-Client for windows. If I put it on my main-drive D:\\, it can't connect to the internet. But I can't put it on C:\\, because that is reserved for the OS only.

I also tried to use the official curse client, but that one doesn't even ask me if I want to install it on another drive.

Is there a trick on how I can get the FTB-Client running on another drive than C?

It shouldn't care what Drive it is on. Can you give us a log?

I don't know what to say. How is that even possible? Are you removing network wires to attach d:?

Not true. by default user profiles are created in c:\. If you user profiles are in d: then Curse automatically used d:


Both launcher have a setting which conts installation location and both launcher give option to change installation location at first run. Doublecheck settings

Update: I read your replies and I tried it again. I copied the Client from C:\Program Files\FTB to D:\Games\FeedTheBeast and removed the files in local/AppDir.

Now I get this behaviour: Client starts without problems, I can also download and start packs. But when I go on the "news" tab of the client, it still shows me "No network connection, no news".

Here is the logfile output. Before I got it, I deleted the old one, started the client, switched to the news tab and then exited the client. There is no ERROR and even no WARNING message in the log. Also, because the main problem somehow solved itself and I can't reproduce the behaviour any more, I count this as "solved" now. Although I'm still curious about the reasons for that strange behaviour (im software dev myself so I know how stupid non-reproducable bugs can be).

That is very similar to my install location.
F:\Games\Minecraft\FTB\FTB_Launcher.jar
I haven't tried a standard install though. I tell it to install instances in a folder just off of that and use a batch script to try and get it to put other folders it uses there as well. FTB launcher uses three different install locations, last I checked. Even with all that I do I can't get the entire install to go there.

If I am reading that log right(which I have no clue how to do) your install is having no issue connecting to the internet. It does look like you have multiple java installs. One of them doesn't look right either. The names look like something from old dos tried to set them up. All of them are out of date as well. Not for sure why nothing is appearing on your ftb ?gui?. Maybe it can't see the folder it is using for that data.

If you are adventurous(and don't mind watching your computer go down like some catastrophe in history) you could try this:

I don't think anyone should run something like this off the net without knowing what it is doing. Still its up to them. Can't say I haven't. I've chosen to do plenty of re-formats based on the outcome. Just copy paste the code into a text file. Replace the file name with the name of the file you want to run. Save it and rename the file "FTB_Launcher.bat", place it in the launcher's folder, and run it.(not as administrator. That doesn't go well with badly written scripts, and I don't write them any other way.(this is actually similar to what i use to launch a few different programs on my computer)(the 1GB is fine. the launcher doesn't need even that much. and the actual game will use a different setting. usually provided by the launcher)

That no news looks normal. my launcher reports the same. the rest of the tabs work right though.

Not true. by default user profiles are created in c:\. If you user profiles are in d: then Curse automatically used d:

Curse has never given any option I can see for choosing its install location. I would like to know where that is. I really don't like it installing like it does. I know I can choose the instance install location for minecraft. That is all i've been able to do with curse.(it is nice about installing directX. I will give it that. It makes installing DirectX a lot easier.
