I'm sure that I'm missing something silly but can't find any fixes..

I'm using default texture pack and the textures that are missing vary from ender tanks, animals, mobs, powersuits and sometimes they are there, sometimes there not.

F3+T doesn't change anything?
Any suggestions anyone??

Uninstall Optifine Ultra and install the Standard version.

Rhn, Do you use optifine? If so do any textures ever flash or glitch for you? I cannot decide if I should use optifine or not as it does boost my FPS even though it doesn't really need it but I cannot decide. semi-related to the topic :p

I have semi recently started using it again after learning that you can use the standard version without all the massive glitches. I do get some (very few) stuff glitch out when looking at them at close to 90 degree angles etc.(like CC monitors become hollow when looking peripherally at them). But nothing that I cant live with.

Not really seeing any fps boost either. Maybe a more smooth performance. Less "hickups". Sadly we cant have the multicore chunkloading of Optifine Ultra without it glitching out completely :(
But reason why I decided to keep it is all the extra graphic options it gives me and more importantly all the beautiful stuff it enables my texture pack(Soartex) to do. Stuff like custom stars, sky, auroras, etc.

Ah, I've been using Ultra all this time! I never even knew there was a standard! One sec let me try it out.

Alright after trying it out I do not get the graphic glitches I did before which were not major in the first place, such as flicking on factorization barrels. I still get a little bit of flickering on seared tanks and Thermal Expansion 3 machines but other than that its not major at all and a lot better. I might actually start using the standard here momentarily, do you think it is worth it to use standard and not ultra? What features does ultra have that standard does not?

If you can use the Ultra with tolerable results, then you probably want to. One of the major reasons to use it is the Multicore chunkloading option that greatly improves performance(it spreads chunk loading and chunk calculations out over several cpu cores, which is something vanilla MC cannot do(1.8 might solve that)). You should be able to find this option under the main Graphic options menu I think.

I cant personally run ultra due to it after a short while bugs textures of stuff like animals, players, chests, machines etc. to such a degree that they are almost unrecognisable.

Oh.... so wait am I lucky or something because I have never experienced any missing "geometry" on animals or anything like that, only flashing textures on barrels and thermal expansion machines and seared tanks, other than that I don't have any other issues, but I can't decide what to use :(

Edit: Right as I say that I go into the twighlight forest and spawn a kobold and it's torso is missing. Sigh.

The great debate, optifine standard ultra or none at all.

Is there really no way to get your texturepacks to use all of their features without optifine?

It was a difficult choice for me too. I had great performance improvements of ultra, but the shear number of items/mobs/machines it bugged out simply made it useless in the end.

And I think there is one other mod thingy mentioned that can enable the extra features of texturepacks, but cant remember the name right now. Not sure it is up to date however.

AFAIK, MCPatcher does *most* of what Optifine can when it comes to graphics. It doesn't have the better, more finely-grained controls over graphics like Optifine does, but it does enable most of them.
I've found that unless you have really recent graphics hardware, Ultra will nearly always bug out eventually. Sometimes it takes longer than others. Standard is usually a better choice otherwise, though in all honesty, the only real reason I use optifine is, as rhn said, the better graphics controls. Being able to turn on and off what I want with greater precision than usual is all I really need. if there existed a Forge-friendly mod that did those controls and not all the rest, I'd be happy to use it instead of Optifine - too many mods complain about it.

Why I just cant let go of Optifine:

(Picture really don't do justice to the colours ingame).

Oh and the Aurora is not just painted on the back sky, it is "live" slightly moving in the foreground.

That does do it justice for me at least ;)

That's absolutely stunning. Can't believe that's in Minecraft.
