I'm afraid I don't have a lot of details on this, because I tend to not notice they're gone until a critical thing runs out of power.
I have Thermoelectric Generators powering most of my machines (and one Kinetic generator with a triple waterwheel elsewhere), with MV and HV wires feeding into Ender IO capacitors. Only a few machines are run at heavy usage, so those are the ones that tip me off to this happening. For reasons unknown, they run out of power completely, and when that happens, I find that every single Immersive Engineering wire has vanished. The connectors still seem to register something is there, as they give me the message 'You cannot connect a wire here' until I break and replace them.
