If servers handle the machine calculations, why does my FPS drop in my base?

All of these are done client side, and boilers can hit the last two. If you have RC steam engines, it will be all three. Boilers also produce their own light so they influence lighting in addition to needing to render it from other sources. Boilers also may be rendering the fuel going into it whether items or liquid when using transparent pipes. You also have to consider when you slow down enough, it will always be behind.

Reducing your lighting quality may help. So will turning from balanced to power saver. Power saver locks the FPS at no more than 30. Not falling behind can really help stabalize FPS on lower end systems.
