Oh, there was a trick I've read about. After chrono typing the babies away, make a transport system to transfer the babies to directly below the main pen.
That way the babies will all crowd towards the middle since the adults are all above them. (Hopefully...I didn't test them)

I use water flows to keep the babies (and parents) from glitching.

5x5 breeding room. 4 source blocks of water, one in each corner. (6 animals). This makes the parents stay in the middle of the room.
5x5 baby room. 2 blocks of water in the corners on the side of the breeding room.
This way the baby animals just swim up the stream and get dragged down again. I usually also have a hopper where the 2 flows combine, for missing leather pieces. Somehow the grinder not always picking up all leather.

I originally tried to make the farm out on a grass field to look as natural as possible, so never thought about this. But its an excellent idea and think I'll try it out!

Also, I dont think the mobs are trying to get back to parents, but I think its a thing in the vanilla pathfinding that whenever you move a mob, it will try and get back to its original position again.

Babies following their parents, it's a vanilla thing. It really has to do with breeding, not just getting back to their previous position. They follow their parents until they are grown mature.

The MFR grinder kills the animal then creates the expected, vanilla, drops in it's inventory. The extra that isn't 'picked up' is the extra drops that.. Dartcraft, or some other mod adds to increase the drop rate (above vanilla rates). That's what shows up in your hoppers.

Good to know, thanks loboca!

So there is a mod in Unleashed who adds extra leather or something. Oh well, the hopper system works perfectly :)

Yeah think its Dartcraft as loboca mentioned. It relies a bit much on leather and aimed to make it easier to obtain. For example you can "shear" cows with the force shears :p

I just gave this a try. I made 2 5x5 pens on top of each other. The top one with a breeder and a chronotyper pulling baby animals out into a chute that drops them down to the lower floor. I put a couple conveyor belts pushing the mobs into the 5x5 pen(into range of the slaughterhouse/grinder), and for the most part it seem to work. Those retarded baby animals still sometimes get it into their heads(usually a couple at the same time for some reason) to get back into the chute against the conveyor belts. But at least this way its not the whole herd of them trying at the same time and causing them to glitch through walls etc.

Yup same here. A straight 4 blocks drop down with no chance of getting back up. But still they try.

Because of the glitchy behaviour of the mobs, these farms usually don't last long in my game. When I have my first mob spawner ready with a grinder (and thereby enough mob essence), I upgrade my cow farm to an auto-spawner and grinder (or slaughterhouse) and only enable it when I need food or leather.

Yeah I basically just decided to try something a bit different. Already got a tier 5 soulshard cow spawner lying in a chest. Would really have been the better solution.
