i've recently just added ic2 to the magic world and it all downloaded in alright but theres no recipes for machines block, furnaces, macerators egt...
what am i missing?

You need the "NEI Plugins" which include support for major mods like IC2: https://bitbucket.org/mistaqur/nei_plugins/wiki/Home

no i mean i actually tried to make a machine block and i got a red pipe wire which is a different mod for starters ... and i got the plugin

That means item IDs are messed up and IC2 IDs got assigned to other items somehow. Try to use IC2 config file from other FTB pack. I don't guarantee it will work though.

That's likely to be a block ID conflict, then. Although they usually don't make it past startup.

When I did something similar I had this problem. It is builcraft and IC2 using a lot of the same config IDs. If you change the IC2 block IDs to match the block config from the 1.4.2 beta pack it will work. You can just copy and paste it over the default config and it should work.
