I was just trying out the Miner in IC2 1.109.113 and I noticed that it takes two mining pipes per level of depth. So about 130 pipes to get to the bottom from a typical location. Unfortunately, only one pipe per level is returned when you remove the drill bit. So every time you use the miner, you lose half your pipes!

Don't bother using the miner... it's just horrible in every way. Quarries or mining turtles is the way to go. Just run a built in script, download one or make it yourself for the turtle and you can have it do ANYTHING. It's so op I don't even know where to begin.

I think the reason in most cases is that people don't know how to use it and that is a good thing. Because once they start using that mod they'll never stop using it and put the blind eye on how op it is. Anyways besides that, you could also use steves carts, it's fairly straight forward and simple, don't forget to put a chunkloader on it tho.

Regarding the validity of miners, I find miners to be a MUCH faster way of extracting all the goodies from the ground than quarries and carts. I use an OV Scanner, so I get a 9x9 area down to bedrock siphoned of ALL valuable blocks in not very much time at all. Just plonk a Lapotron crystal in the slot, stick a chest next to the miner, and put down a world anchor and come back in 15 minutes to find a chest of treasures. Doesn't produce mountains and mountains of excess cobblestone, and doesn't make huge holes in the landscape.

The miner is underrated I think. Maybe you guys haven't really tried it.

Also, I'll check out that fix and see if it works! Thanks.

[edit]

Ok the latest version does fix the miner problem, but anyone upgrading needs to also upgrade Nuclear Control because the old NC doesn't play nice with the new IC2. Not a problem, just make sure both are updated.
