So I decided to customize my Tech World 2 pack in SSP, and I wanted to center around GregTech and IC2, I added Compact Solars and Compact Windmills, looked up the new info on Greg's Bronze Age and steam power and whatnot. Saw a post about the Big Reactors mod and even though its kind of OP and easy to make compared to GT philosophy, I grabbed it too. Before I knew it, I was searching through NEI and noticed that with the IC2 experimental builds and of course gregtech, there's alot of new ways to make EU, then you add in Thermal Expansion, BuildCraft, BuildCraft Tools, RailCraft and any power converter mod, the possibilities get exponential. So, I was wondering if anyone knew of any sort of centralized thread on at least some of the more common generators, and how they work and their EU production values, because I am more than a little confused and overwhelmed. Gregtech add's it's own version of the Geo Gen ? Why ? Whats the difference/benefit ? Semi-fluid generator ? So I can use BC Fuel without a conversion mod now ? I thought for sure I would find a thread related to this, but anything for 1.6.4 isn't out there that I could find. Also, I could have sworn in my old pack, NEI had a plugin of sorts that gave the fuel values for different things like EU Generators and Steam Boilers, but I don't seem to have it or know where to find it and I'm not sure it is up to date with things like the Semi Fluid generator, and not to mention all the GT generators. Any help is very appreciated. I am just trying to get an idea on how these new gens work, what fuel they use and how efficient they are. Thank you in advance !

Have you tried searching the ftb reddit? I know they are more inclined to use Gregtech and have included it in their community pack. You'd probably get a quicker & more detailed response there.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
NEI tooltips usually has the fuel values for the basic ones. WALIA might also provide something similar.
Greg also added fuel burning 'recipes' to NEI- look up the uses for a GT liquid fuel and it'll name the machine and power produced. (at least in 1.4.7)
(this might also run backwards- giving a fuel list for each genny type)

Greg's geogen is a buffed version of the IC2 one- it burns lava more efficiently. The thermal boiler is a massive version of said geogen.
Semifluid gen burns thicker fluids like creosote, lithium ect.. Theres a dedicated diesel genny for BC fuel/Diesel.
Theres a lot of cross-mod stuff in Gtech. We've only really scratched the surface.

You should probably check out the gregtech wiki. The information gets outdated quickly with greg's rapid updates, but a good chunk of it should be useful.

Yeah, this is a good thing to do. Most of what Greg adds is quickly added, updated, changed, revised, edited, and sometimes even rewritten. But what is on there is usually your best source of info, stuff GT players have gleaned from his changelogs they saw, tested in game, and occasionally Greg just flat out says.

But I'd say that most GT power generation could be listed into material tiers. You start with Bronze and Steam, a whole system that you can technically bypass just by getting energy elsewhere(and maybe steel elsewhere). Most versions of things in IC2 and some in GT have Steam Powered variants, and all in all, they are slow and often inefficient. But upgrade you can, once you get steel(or was it nether materials?), and eventually you make your normal IC2 E-Net consuming things, multiblock variants of machines you're used to being 1 block, etc etc.

Power systems after that still are mostly tiered I think. You have the semi-fluid generator, which doesn't take normal fuel but things like Creosote Oil or Lithium. Technically a fuel, but neither a fluid nor a solid, somewhere in between. Not Jell-o, though.

His lava burning engine is a bit more powerful and a hell of a lot less wasteful.(IIRC), taking small amounts of lava when it generates power. Has an internal tank of about ten buckets IIRC, and you can even take lava out of it if you want, and can hold fluid cells with lava in it waiting to use them, only a bucket at a time.

There is a diesel engine that can take normal Fuel, but it can take all kinds of GT variants, many that are very potent compared to even normal IC2 Adulterated Coal Fuel.

Plus there is his Super Endgame Plasma Engines which require his Super EndgameFusion Reactor to generate Plasma for fuel in them, but are apparently powerful enough that you likely won't need more then one except for show. Even when run on just water byproducts. Unless you want to use them to make resources as well, in which case you will likely want a second one for that.

A true side-grade I'd say is his magic generators, one can generate power from magical materials, one can generate power from those Ender Crystals that heal the dragon in the fight or by disenchanting items, and one generates power from having a Dragon Egg on top of it.(something about power from it's teleporting, self-destructs by default if more then one is able to generate power)

One used to generate power from TC3 Node mechanics, literally sucking Vis out of the air to make power, but it tended to make flux like crazy and was destroyed if a wisp hit it(was that even possible?) which caused even more flux. It may change eventually to use TC4 stuff, I hope, but who knows?
