I've been playing on 8bit FTB Unleashed and all the admins are convinced both of these cables cause loops, but a few of my friends and I believe this to be wrong. Does any one know for sure what, besides BC3 conductive pipes, causes loops?

IC2 cables themselves don't cause loops, only if they're hooked up to an energy storage that outputs into the same line of cables. Making a small loop of them accidentally due to compaction is fine.

AE cables... if your admins think that these cause loops, you should probably ask the owner of the server to hire new admins. You can loop them all you want in whatever way possible. It'll never cause issues.

Your server needs new admins. With, ya know, basic knowledge of the game.

It is physically impossible for AE to loop and really, really hard for IC2 to loop (you have to do it intentionally pretty much and even then there isn't lag or anything). Same goes for Energy Conduits I believe.

Energy conduits actually cause loops with energy loss, but thats not true for IC2 or AE.

midi_sec, I am fully up-to-date with IC2. I known its issues since tekkit as well as 1.4.2 FTB Beta. Otherwise, many servers wouldnt be having issues with mods right now. Alot are being fixed, but many like IC2 still have its issues, whether if one see it or not.

That setup in that picture would not cause a cable loop as it would all go to the MFSU you have there, there is actually no looping occurring there.
A lot of long time modded server admins/ owners however have a deep ingrained fear of looping cables. As there was a time where you could get infinite EU by looping the cable through a EU storage device. This caused duplicate packets of EU allowing it to essentially fill it's self but this also caused lag as the amounts of packets cycling through it got to the point of being infinite, actually no the server crashes before that.

As far as I can tell that was fixed ages ago, but it still seems that old hat admins are taking heavy handed precautions based on prior experience. I mean I know it's a case of once bitten twice shy but you don't really need to be shy when whatever bit you lost it's teeth...
Also I have never used it but I was under the impression UE handled it's power calculation in a clever way that cable loops can't happen? And BC pipe could never loop as they work different and had/ have the tendency to explode before they lag anything.

Azzanine, when your running MCPC+ as well as plugins/mods that cancels the explosion events, they will explode over and over and cause lag because of the items in the pipes building up. If it was vanilla forge, it would be a different story.

Hmmk, I remember seeing the same thing only with a boiler.

8bit's admins know nothing about FTB/Mods, i used to play on their server and got banned for making something similar...
