Hey guys ive watched the season 4 lets play series of direwolf20 in youtube and because ive started with 1.4.7 with FTB i didnt know that thaumcraft was much different in the past.

i cant understand why the modder changed it so much and destroyed his mod.

when i watched the lets play i was so excited of the old thaumcraft, all those items and research stuffs and so on, it was just amazing.

what is thaumcraft today? you research items and craft them the way you do it in thaumcraft and thats it. also there arent much items now so its getting boring really fast.

do you guys know if the moder will change the mod back to the way it was?

thanks in advance

Nope, not going to happen as the older versions were geared purely for single player only as they did not support SMP. After 1.3 merged both SSP and SMP it was no longer possible to make a mod purely for SSP so the mod author had to redesign the mod to better work in a SMP environment. Please be aware that he is adding more and more to the mod over time with each update and that most of the things are hidden behind the research wall.

The current version in fact has more items and cool toys then the past versions, speaking from a person that has played with thuamcraft from its beginning. Sure some things were removed like taint and the flying carpet but far more was added like the golems and other amazing items.

Damn, I didn't know that. I was hoping to fly on a magic carpet after seeing the image in NEI on some Mindcraft videos. I'm going to need an alternate to flight without a jetpack.

In the 1.5.2 versions of the mod he added his own magic based jetpack that looks amazing, as for the carpet it is currently disabled as it has far too many issues.

I saw in a post the other day that Thaumic Tinkerer is adding some sort of flying chestplate that works like the ol' EE2 ring

I for one miss having vis and taint flowing around in pipes and knowing that at any moment my taint tank could explode and reek havoc on my base. No joke.

You can always play FTB retro 1.2.5. If you prefer the ways things used to be just play the old mod, it's that easy.

Unfortunately, I don't think FTB Retro has Thaumcraft 2. Plus there's the whole screwed up worldgen thing.

Thaumcraft is the second of the major "magicky" mods that got a complete rewrite when 1.3 reared it's head. As such it's still unfinished (the version is 3.0.5e at the moment, as in TC3 0.5e, or still technically unreleased). There is more coming, and there have been more additions with every version.

Personally, I prefer the new mechanics. While in TC2, there was the quantifiable "good" and "bad" sides of things, and only the good was ever useful, the new version uses aspects of the environment, each of which is useful for it's own purpose. The system has gotten more complex (whether or not it's too complex is arguable), but the better for it.

Plus, the TC2 research method was a bit silly. I'll admit that the obelisks were intriguing, far more so than the current barrows/altars, but the new versions actually hold a challenge beyond the initial figuring it out (i.e. are still a game after the info hits the internet).

I also quite like the slightly more secular method of it. Flux is pervasive and troublesome, but it's not going to explode from a tank, or given chunk, and destroy the entire rest of my base.

It's called a Thaumostatic Harness and it's part of base Thaumcraft. Tinkerer adds a wand for flying and the Sword of the condor which combines that wand with the sword of the Zephyr.

This is an interview with Azanor concerning future plans and updates

TC2 was a bit too much like the other mods, which is probably why he changed it. You get conduits (tubes/pipes/liquiducts) and you pump purple stuff through it (EU) and you 'engage' (power) magical devices (machines) to give you cool stuff (cool stuff).

The words in the parenthesis are the IC2 versions of the TC2 items. Not much different.

Now, in TC3, all that is gone and we have a much more interesting way of creating items, having to sacrifice valuables and make recipes and whatnot to create items.

I believe Azanor is going to do another re-write and make TC4, although it might just end up being an update to TC3. I personally think that he hit the spot with TC3 and he shouldn't screw with it anymore, but that's just me.
Because I know that he'll keep changing it. And we'll get TC5. And TC6...
and TC7...

and TC8...

It's probably a good thing that he's going to do another re-write though, since all of his re-writes of the previous Thaumcraft versions have been for the better. (Excluding TC1, I loved the portals... where are my portals now D: )

I miss seals from TC2. Golems are a fair trade-off, because they're awesome, but my growth -> harvest -> replant farm was amazing.

I also really liked having patches of tainted landscape around that needed to be dealt with.

I posted an interview where he spells out TC3.1. Among other things are revisions to aspects and simplification of research

Indeed, tainted land was interesting, it just needed a fine tune to keep the effect more under control.
