Yep, it's definitely something to do with trying to spawn a pech with a wand focus, but

can you please elaborate? Do you mean it crashed twice for you? Is it the server that's crashing or is it your client that's crashing?

Its the whole server, not the client.

Something you can try is disabling the spawning of pechs in the Thaumcraft config file. There's a config section on the spawning of monsters, you can turn it off there. Hopefully if this is actually being caused by pechs spawning, this will fix it for you.
