I'm at the point of the game now where I have gotten everything I can, including ExtraBees, Thaumcraft, and Twilight Forest.

Except iridium.

I decided that my thermal generators weren't enough to power my industrial blast furnace, so I decided to take the solar panel route.

I need iridium.

I then decided to make some quantum suit armor, as an upgrade to my nano one.

I need even more iridium.

I looked up on the wiki and decided to make a Matter Fabricator to convert UU to the iridium I desperately need.

You guessed it, the recipe requires iridium.

Seriously, is there any way to get some goddamn iridium in this game?
(Other than exploring caves for weeks / constructing a dozen quarries, both of which I don't look forward to doing)

I'm running the Mindcrack pack, if that helps.

You can industrial centrifuge platinum/shiny metal or industrial grind sheldonite to get iridium nuggets. If you grind sheldonite with mercury (from centrifuging redstone or industrial electrolyzing cinnabar dust), you get an additional platinum dust from the sheldonite.

I'm surprised you've gotten so far without actually knowing other ways to get iridium.

If you've "finished" extra bees, the best method would be to create a couple alvearies with valuable bees that you inoculate with fastest productivity, strong flyer and nocturnal traits. Put the platinum dust into centrifuges to get iridium nuggets, and compress those into iridium.

Platinum makes iridium? Huh, I must have missed that somewhere. o_O
Well, I'll certainly try that out. Thanks guys.

Go to the End, kill the Dragon, and get the Sheldonite ores around there. They have a 10% chance of giving iridium per ore, and they give 2 platinum per ore. So, that's a big chance for getting it. On my first go, just did stuff out in the open, hadn't set up a quarry yet, I got the worth of 10 iridium plates from that stuff. Took me about 30 minutes max.

Or even better, Put it in an Industrial Grinder for a TWO guaranteed Iridium Nuggets (not to mention more Platinum)

I wish I'd known that 2 hours ago. QQ

Ranking (assuming you centrifuge all Platinum):
  1. In a I.Grinder (with Mercury Cells) you get 3 platinum and 2 iridium nuggets (0,56 Iridium per ore)
  2. In a I.Grinder (with water) you get 2 platinum and 2 iridium nuggets (0,44 Iridium per ore)
  3. Rock Crusher - 2 plat and 10% chance of a full ore (0,32 Iridium per ore)
  4. Pulverizer - 2 plat and 5% chance for a full ore (0,27 Iridium per ore)
  5. Macerator - 2 plat (0,22 iridium per ore)
  6. Furnace - 1 plat (0,11 Iridium per ore)

Here is how you do it :

Stage 1
Research the wand of equal trade in thaumcraft
Try to get a Frugal enchantment on it
Get an advanced jetpack
perhaps bring extra power just in case, although the advanced jetpack should be able to handle even the longest trips into the End
Setup an enderchest or 2 and make enderbags for each of them. Make sure you have enough ender bags to fit your entire inventory in.
Get plenty of cobble
Get all your regular gear

Stage 2
Go to the end
Find sheldonite, select cobble with the wand of equal trade, right click on sheldonite, it will turn into cobble and the sheldonite will go into your inventory
do this for ~2 hours

Stage 3
After you are done, put all your stuff into the enderbags, and then put the enderbags in the enderbags
you should have an empty inventory
kill yourself
open the enderchests to find all your stuff

Stage 4
Go to the nether and find cinnabar ore, it looks kinda like redstone
put the cinnabar dust you get in an industrial electrolyser
get mercury cells

Stage 5
Make an industrial grinder
Put the sheldonite in the grinder with the mercury cells
You should get iridium nuggets and 3 platinum per ore
Centrifuge the platinum
Get LOTS of iridium

I did the end thing for a few hours and got ~10 stacks (can't remember exactly) of sheldonite, I had at least 4 stacks of iridium in the end (I think, either way it was a pretty large number)

Also, retexturing sheldonite to be totally red helps a lot.
If you have one, use a portal gun to hop between asteroids, I think a blink drive from MPS would work too.

Not the basic ones but to upgrade them you need iridium in Greg tech which is fair since solar panels do produce a good amount of energy without waisting fuel.

False. GregTech does nothing with solar panels besides changing the crafting recipe for the basic one to require silicon plates. No iridium in there anywhere.

Any recipes for advanced solar panels come from the mod that is named - wait for it - Advanced Solar Panels. ;)

I thought it was Greg tech do to needing iridium plates but I guess I'm wrong.

I thought GregTech changed the Advanced Solar Panel recipe to need the Irradiant Reinforced Plate? (Although it's disabled by default)

Nope, that's a config setting in Advanced Solar Panels. It has always offered an "easy" and a "hard" recipe, but what exactly these recipes were changed with different releases of ASP.

GregTech does not touch anything that mod adds ;)

Actually, Greg contradicted me just earlier today. To quote:

"@Advanced Solar: I have 3 Lines of Commented out Code, which can add Advanced Solar Panel Covers to the Game. I will probably add them sometime with a default-OFF Config."

So he does in fact touch ASPs :p Though not necessarily in the recipe sense.

One thing I would like to add to this great post:
Carry a linking book to the overworld with you if you have mystcraft. When you are done, teleport back.
