Hello!

After several months without playing, i bought a brand new computer and i am playing Minecraft again.

The problem is that now i dont know what new mods there are, and i dont know how Feed The Beast works exactly.

I have been playing the Horizon mod pack, but i dont like Mystcraft. Witchery, Arcs Magica 2 and Reactor craft, and i dont know what mod adds hundreds of rares tinies blocks to Minecraft (Forge or something they say).

On the other hand, I love Team´s Metallurgy mods, Magical Crops, having thousands of ores for mining, Twilight Forest and Tic´s.

I would like to play Buildcraft and Industrialcraft together with this mods and others like Biomes O´Plenty and Natura or Backpacks and BetterStorage.

So, now, i dont know if i should add the mods i like to Monster Mod Pack, or change Horizons Mod Pack, or it already exits a private or public mod pack with the attributes that i am looking for.

I will use this Post to ask if someone knows mod news and funny, and ask for advice.

Of course, thanks!!!!

P.D: English is not my mother tongue. I AM SORRY. >.< Please correct any mistake. >.<

the hundreds of tiny blocks is Forge Microparts and it is an extremely useful mod to hide cables and other stuff. I also think a lot of other mods depend on it so I wouldn't remove that one.

I think you should probably pick a modpack like horizons that almost fits what you want and just disable all the mods that you don't like.

I would say you should only use Monster as a template if you actually want to use the majority of the mods already in there. If you don't then thats a lot of load on your PC/server for no good reason unless you disable them all. But if you do want to use the majority of the mods, then sure, use monster and add a few of your favourite mods from Horizon. That was how Horizon was intended to start with. A showcase for mods that you could then add to your main pack. But I would never play Horizons(despite it has now been turned into a quite playable modpack), simply because it is missing all the "pillar" mods.

Therefore, i should choose a Mod Pack like Unleash and Monster and adds the Mods I want like Metallurgy and for example Erebus, no?

But, i have a question, how many mod can i add to a Mod Pack? 3, 5,15?

What risk i have that i will have problemns of compatiblility?

Thanks again :)

The only real limiting factor to how many mods you can add to a modpack is the total number of item IDs available. But I think your PC/server would have kicked it long before that becomes an issue today due to how conservative modders have become in their use of IDs. But bear in mind that Monster on its own requires quite a lot of resources to run, so adding 15 mods to it might not be the best idea. Not unless you disable a lot of stuff as well.

You wont be able to play the Erebus and Biomes O plenty together unless you fiddle with the configs for a bit because they both require a block ID under 256 but BoP uses them all.

I dont understand, FTB doesnt configure the IDs alone? U need to configure the IDs if there is a ID conflict?

No, FTB does that for you. But the problem is that there is no way to configure the ID's correctly with BoP and Erebus because they basically use the same range and can't be modified out of that range for some specific things.

No, it doesnt automatically fix ID conflicts. it will however give you a conflict report list after you try to load the game once. You will have to disable one of BoP's biomes that has its own terrain block if you want to play the Erebus. I disabled the bloody heap biome. Then you can assign the flesh block id to something higher than 256 and be safe.

After you fix the block id conflicts there will most likely be item ID conflicts too and those arent as easy to fix because you wont get a report about it.

Ah, ok. :)

Definitely, should I add BetterStorage and Metallurgy to Monster Mod Pack? I will disable i hope less mods than in Horizon Mod Pack.

Any idea to include a mod that it could be interesting?

Thanks for your attention guys. :D

Better storage is already in Monster.

I'm with @rhn . Start with Monster, and then delete and add from there. The reason you want to start with Monster is it includes the *non-conflicting* configs for all the mods, BoP and Erebus aside. Monster will also get you pretty much the latest versions of all the mods in one step.

Um... I was under the impression that all the packs had all the non-conflicting configs -- this being what the FTB master configs are all about. Did I misunderstand something?

They use the exact same configs, but they don't necessarily include an exhaustive list of configs. MagicFarm2, for instance, includes only the configs for the mods it uses.

Sounds like the best starting point would be to grab the whole set of master configs rather than ripping them out of a pack, then.

Well, first of all, I wouldn't recommend ripping a set of configs out of a pack. Rather, start with the *whole pack* like Monster, configs and mods included. Then, selectively prune/add mods from there.
