Hi guys,

I am new to FTB and would like to find a nice lengthy YouTube series about it.

I want it to be a series were the youtuber doesn't do much off camera and explains things really well.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

joosha

Direwolf20 or any of the Mindcrack players (i.e. Etho, DocM77) are pretty obvious choices since they have FTB packs named after them. DW does a lot of stuff off-camera, but it's mostly just monotonous things like mining or bee breeding. Pretty much all his builds are done on-camera. The big exception is Thaumcraft research - he always hides that off screen because it's lengthy and because it contains spoilers. In general, I think DW covers more of the FTB content than any given Mindcrack player (though as a whole, they probably cover more than him), but his builds focus on being functional rather than aesthetically pleasing (case in point: the infamous DW20 9x9). Meanwhile Etho's idea for a tree farm was a giant laser of death cutting down a redwood - hardly the most convenient way of doing things, but pretty darn cool.

Seriously. No one does a better job of explaining than Direwolf20.
Others that have been mentioned are good too but I don't think they come anywhere even close when it comes to detailed description of what he's doing and why.
The others though may have more "entertainment" value. That's not to say Direwolf doesn't have his moments.

I'm not a fanboy, I watch many of the others mentioned as well. But it has to be said most of the people listed are still in their learning curve. The mindcrack guys especially, although fast learners started their series knowing very little. That was actually part of the charm as you watched them learn and make mistakes. But prob' not ideal for someone with no knowledge of FTB.
Direwolf on the other hand lives and breaths mods and rarely gives any false information. His vannila experience though is questionable hehe.
He also has an excellent bitesize mod spolight series. But his singleplayer season 5 is what I recomend as it takes you from punching your first tree to wherever he decides its over. Series 4 smp is worthwhile too as he plays on Forgecrat. A server that many mod devs use to play and test Alpha / beta versions of their mods.

Give Direwolf a shot. The first 2 episodes are a bit slow as it's resource gathering...

EDIT: Anothing thing worth mentioning, if you download the "Direwolf FTB modpack" he uploads a world save every 10 episodes. So you can download the worlds you see being built and walk around them. Taking apart things you have seen him build for a hands on view of how things work. His world saves are in the map section of the launcher.

And Zisteau does his Thaumcraft research at the end of his videos so that people can switch off at that point if they don't want spoilers.

The Mindcrack guys build stuff that it's more aesthetic as well. DW has admitted that he's not a builder, more of a technical guy, I would definitely recommend mixing it up. He really knows most of the mods, and the Mindcrack guys have varying levels of knowledge, but it can be fun to watch (whilst screaming at the screen things like "no that's not going to work" and "try the..." when you are a bit more familiar with the mods). Nice to see different approaches also.

I am very pick and will give you my favorites:

EthosLab
lMonsterHD - Give him a chance, he makes good quality videos, good commentary, 40+ minute episodes
Direwolf
GenerikB

The Mindcrack guys are alright, some of them have weird voices that I can't stand but it is up to you.

Milbee is just starting, so you will learn what NOT to do, since he does a lot of mistakes, and is a really funny guy.

Also, every mindcracker doing FTB, and DW

I'm a youtuber myself (plug plug), but if I were to suggest someone else I'd go with Direwolf20 if you want tutorials. Usually he is pretty good, however he usually chooses one path and sticks with it. For innovative builds, you can try to check people on the Mindcrack server - they are fairly humorous, as well, so that is an added bonus.

I don't sub to DireWolf20 because I have been pulling back on my sub count because I don't have a lot of time to watch people play these days, but for a straight forward guy who uses a lot of cool mods, I definitely suggest watching his videos. Personally I mostly watch his Mod Spotlights, but I have watched parts of his LP's.
He mines a lot off camera(which makes sense, because that can take hours for some things), and doesn't show everything he does(as others have said, he tends to not show his Thaumcraft Research and Bee Breeding), but he almost always shows him building things. Aside from a 9x9 after he builds his first one, anyway. Tends to craft things off camera unless he has a autocrafting system set up yet, in which case he uses it and sometimes just uses it to show things in action.

All in all, he's straight forward and somewhat silly. Sounds alright, meaning he likely has a good microphone. Doesn't do fancy video editing(I heard he only uses Windows Movie Maker), and honestly, I prefer him over other FTB LP-ers because of this. Heck, I prefer his videos because they are not filled with video editing garbage(seriously, I hate any video with screen wipes).

And most of all, he doesn't bitch about things not going the way he wants them to, unlike some FTB LP's who shall remain unnamed.
