Hey,

New to the forums and to FTB and first of all loving it all. Moved from Vanila with two mods to this blew me out of the water hehe. I do need your help though. I am runing the MindCrack Pack (v8.1.1) Minecraft 1.4.7 and I am hitting recipe madness. I am constantly hitting walls with recipes not working like the google masters say they should. Now I have figured out that it is because of gregtech mod I believe which has added a lot of really cool things but has also changed some recipeis like I finally found out how to make a Quarry machine under the new recipies but stuff like copper case i think for the carpenter table does not use just copper bars and can't find the recipe at all. I seriously have spent more hours trying to find recipies than playing the game. Wanted to plead to see if anyone out there has a good updated list for this version of MindCrack of the recipies so I can PLAY the game.
Before coming here I did my best to find the answer myself but have not found anything substantial it seems there is very little documentation etc so just thought I would ask for help. Thanks in advance.

All the mod-packs come with NEI built in, which has all of the recipes in it.
Also if you are new you shouldn't be using the Mindcrack pack, it's extremely difficuly :)

@ascent: personally, I'd have chosen the DW20 pack to start off with but mindcrack is still doable.

My advice: open inventory and press "o". This will then open up NEI (Not Enough Items) which can be used to look up recipes. Hovering over an item and pressing R (Recipe) will show you the recipes. Pressing U will show you the different uses of items.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Bel*.

What tehBlobLord means is that you can mouse over any item in your inventory OR in the big list on the right side, and press R (meaning "recipes") to see how that item is crafted, or U (meaning "uses") to see what can be crafted with this item as an ingredient. In the big list, leftclicks and rightclicks also work, but not in your inventory (for obvious reasons). Also, NEI might be set to cheat mode if you just started a world for the first time; in that case, clicking won't work either (instead it will just spawn in items for you). To disable cheat mode, use the Options button in the lower left corner of your inventory screen.

At the bottom of the inventory screen there is a search bar where you can find any item in order to look up its recipes and uses.

If you cannot see the NEI interface at all, try pressing O while your inventory is open to toggle the display on and off.

Wow you guys just opened up a new world for me. Thanks so much for all the fast help. Also tehBlobLord you are probably right but I did not know what I was getting into hehe I just saw this server and wanted to try it and a friend of mine is playing on it randomely and thought I would try to hook up. Now look what I have done haha. Still I am a crafter lover so I think, even though it will take a while to catch on, that I will love Mindcrack!

I think it would be easier to start off with Mindcrack rather than move over from "vanilla" IC2 in the DW20 pack... mainly because it would stop you getting pissed off at greg..

I've tried really really hard to like GT... I really really have :(

I thought I hated it, then tried to play without it. Reached the endgame in about an hour and just sat there looking at my MFSU xD

I guess then the difference is that I don't rush for "endgame" and that I'm more of a builder than a power gamer.
On a server I used to play on I had about 50 MFSU's (no EE2) and while I felt that was pretty "endgame" I didn't quit as I decided I'd build a huge assed dome with my friend, and then we built a base underneath it, and then more of a base underneath, and then we decided we'd go into nuclear power so we made 4 nukes... then we decided that wasn't enough so we build 27 nukes...

Endgame is what you make of it... and that's probably why I dislike GT

What I usually do is endgame all the other mods (tc, te etc) before even starting with IC2, but without GT IC2 is useless once you have a TE setup and stuff xD

I say he start with gregtech since he has no prior knowledge of how easy IC2 is, at least on easymode. Default IC2 (IN MY OPINION) is such a boring mod, completely outclassed by TE and the likes nowadays.

Tip for OP: If you see a recipe flashing like mad, hold shit and it will stop moving around.

You give up easy. Only four hours and your out?
Have you tried using NEI? Hit your inventory key and type in the name of the item you want. Also you can hover over an item you are not familiar with and hit u key to show recipes it's used in.

I did. Unless something has really changed in the last few days I was able to find and use the carpenter recipes no problem. Also the ftbwiki.org might help. If not individual mod wiki's will.
Sometimes items won't work in recipes of they come from another mod, ie for planks vs oak planks.

Fixed that for ya xD

Personally I'm in the same boat as the OP, I started with GT in the pack and due to that I just feel I miss out on a lot of cool tech stuff without it. Also because I never got used to the easy recipes I don't miss them either.
And yeah, NEI is a life saver. I think it could be even better if you could graph stuff out to their base ingredients, or see what resources come from where (ie, is this item a mob drop? something I mine? find it in a random chest? craft it in a special way that isn't shown in NEI? And don't get me started about multiblock structures.), but I understand that might not be easy to implement.
