6) Mining: railcraft adds a tunnel bore. steves carts adds 3 different drills for mining. I have seen people using MFFS for quarry-type mining ( haven't tried this yet so no promises). Computercraft comes preloaded with one mining program (type "excavate x" in your turtle where 'x' is the size you want your quarry). The computercraft forum has many other user created programs for mining.

I'm aware of this, but personally I'm not a big fan of mining w/ carts. I might try that though as I do like the way it will not destroy the landscape that much (which is why I don't like to use a quarry). As for the mining turtle, I might give the "excavate" program a go (I know nothing about coding myself), but you said "x" is the size of the quarry, do you mean that the quarry will be a square with length "x" ?

Regarding universal configs, it should be pointed out that they're only set-up for mods that appear in an FTB pack. So if you want to add, say, blood magic to monster, you're all set. If you wanted to add Dimension Doors, you'd still have to follow the old methods of resolving conflicts.

6) mine factory reloaded has the laser drill. needs lots of RF/MJ (depending on pack/version) or EU to run, but will net you every vanilla and mod ore there is. it also returns blocks for ores that normally drop items like coal and diamond, even gives you glowstone blocks. perfect afk miner. this doesnt actually mine anything, it just generates the blocks, but does require an open line of sight to a bedrock block underneath the drill.

if you need some of the easier to find stuff like dirt and sand, an mfr harvester generates sludge...run that through a sludge boiler and it will randomly generate all sorts of low tier blocks, even soulsand and sometimes mycellium.

if you have a lot of surplus items, run them through recyclers and combine the scrap into scrapboxes. if you can find a machine that can 'open' them (like the new TE autonomous activator), you will get iron, gold, netherrack, grass blocks.

if you need just metals, ic2 crops has ferru and aurelia plants that make iron and gold dust, and redwheat for redstone

also, extra bees has a bee for almost every common metal and precious gem that could be mined, and some fuels as well.

Thanks for this,
I do have a laser drill but it does operate quite slow *currently I have 20 Magma Dynamos powering it* and the focus lenses don't support mod ores *as far as I know* so I get some completely useless decorative ores now and then.
I have recyclers where I toss spare cobblestone and throw the scrap into a mass fab. *though I dont produce enough EU to have it constantly on without scrap*
I've never really tried bees before and I might give that a go.
Ic2 crops, never really thought of them, but I dont think im gonna use them, not such a big fan

6) additionally, if you have soul shards, EE3 and dartcraft, you could go the pigmen route. get a t5 soul shard for pigmen, slap that in a cage and you will get a lot of gold. add a dartcraft transport pipe with an item card that transmutes their sword drops into gold bars. use iron spikes in the mob grinder to get the pigmen to drop minium shards, and add some AE automation to take some of that gold and convert it to iron and diamonds. if you need coal, get a wither shard and grind them too.

and yet another source for metals: gregtech. the industrial centrifuge will produce tin and copper ingots from lava. hell you can get all kinds of crazy stuff from the centrifuge, look at its recipe list sometime

personally, I'd go with the bees. they make an incredible source of renewable resources, provided you have a tree farm in place to keep the alvearies fed with frames to keep them productive. i dont know how many times ive relied on them to produce metals and fuels for just about everything. they are fantastic for a fully automated nuclear reactor (radioactive bees for the win!)

9) dispenser? just put a bucket of lava in it and hit the dispenser with a redstone current. if you want to generate obsidian, try the igneous extruder. open the gui and make sure its set to make obsidian blocks. make sure you feed it water and lava, it does consume a bit of both for every block.

I considered mob farms, but soul shards isnt in Direwolf20 pack. I might install it manually though... But yea I would also have to install EE3 so I could make stuff with the gold.

12) get on youtube and look at direwolf20's videos. he has one that shows him using the liquid uu matter, setting up the machines to automate it, using it, etc.
