Huzzah for FTB, and a lumberjack question

So three cheers for the team for the first 1.4.6 pack, I'm certainly happy.

One question... why do none of these packs have anything like Timber! or Treecapitator? I for one can't bear cutting down trees ever since I discovered those two mods. I know I can add them myself, but I'm just curious... is there some equivalent mod or function of one of the mods that does the same?

I know there are tree farms a la Forestry, turtle logging, and so on... but good gravy, I just can't play Minecraft anymore without being able to quickly and easily take down a whole tree. That's the one "shortcut" (powerup? cheat? call it what you will) I just can't do without.

From what I understand, the FTB team considers it 'cheaty', so they're not adding it. I dunno, seems more a quality of life thing, but as you say, it's easy to add manually.

You will have to add it yourself....Slowpoke himself has said he doesn't like the mod, thinks it is way OP and will not add it to any pack. In the past it has had major bugs as well i believe.

Is the "Axe of the Stream" back in the new Thaumcraft? That would do what you're looking for.

It isn't, yet. But it's looking to me like a lot of Thaumcraft 2 is going to return eventually in Thaumcraft 3 in some form or another.

Combined with the redwood trees from XL Biomes, you would have a ridiculous amount of wood to start out with and therefore, would make it a little OP. I can understand using it if there weren't the giant redwoods or even jungle trees for that matter. Just build a tree farm

Edit: I do believe there is a Forge wood dictionary now.

To answer the OP's question, I believe the Axe of the Stream (and maybe something else) is the reason why these mods are not in the pack, because it would remove the functionality of the special tool.

Not a new dictionary but the Ore Dictionary simply allows for item X to be used in place of item X adn vice versa, so you can just add all the types of wood to the Ore Dictionary to make them interchangeable.
