Etho just recently moved one into his base on the crack pack server and it seems to consume any block within a 20 block radius. If you coat it in obsidian you'll prevent it from eating things, but it will still move entities around it.

It should be theoretically possible to put down a wand recharger and a slightly expanded obsidian box that you let specific items through in order to provide the power to the wand. This way a single node could recharge an unlimited number of wands of any size.

Course you'd either have to feed items in by hand, or through trickery.

On the Resonant Rise server that Ako and Saice play on there was someone who made the Hungry node their recharge source. I know Ako showed it in a video, the node was surrounded by Obsidian with only 1 point of access and it had an absolute ton of aspects in it, so they basically plopped their wand into the recharge station and powered it from a single node.

Golems are annoying to make. You need Motus and Spiritus, plus the actual type of golem. So you end up needing:
  • An automatic crucible
  • Soul Sand
  • Trapdoors
Unless you feel like making a new golem manually every time.

You can also use Crafting Tables if you use Centrifuges. (and either an Alchemical Costruct or Phials to actually use the Aspects)
Has the nice benefit of producing Ordo for Native Clusters.

If your playing on a server with the Random Things mod installed, there is an item called the BlockMover that will also be able to move nodes. rightclick with the tool to store the block in the tool and right click again to place the block that was saved in the tool.

You'll never be able to be safe near it but of that's what you want, it's your game. You'll just have to keep trying to place glass blocks. It's not exactly designed to be a friendly node.

It's most useful to destroy it with a wand focus of excavation and use the essence for other things. The only thing I can think to use a hungry node for would be a horrible prank or downright griefing
these nodes can be energized and used as a massive super node.

Yeah... Not in 2013 which this thread is from...

Welcome to the forum, but do try and look at the date of threads before resurrecting them.
yes true, I forgot to look.
Sorry.

Well, now that the thread is here, it is worth mentioning that, in addition to obsidian, warded blocks including warded glass can be used to safely cage a TC 4 hungry node.

The hungry node had changed a lot in TC 5 and now has the mundane function of draining vis from the aura making it the worst mode to be near. Nodes also can't be destroyed or jarred anymore so if there's one nearby you are stuck with it.

Back in TC 4, the other common method to tame a hungry node for bottling was to taint it by converting the biome it was in to tainted. A tainted node is easy to bottle and its tainted status does not apply once it's been energized.

I consider that cheating, but what with all the changes I never played a tc4 world long enough to finish feeding my hungry nodes and energize them. I was going to create a 40m diameter obsidian chamber to house my captured hungry node and use it for wand recharging, in a 5x5x5 warded glAss block in the chamber center.

Oh well. The best laid plans...

well most ftb modpacks are using 1.7.10 so it should be fine to bottle and energize the node.

Wand Focus Excavation will destroy it. Or you can just bottle it with the Advanced Node Jarring in Automagy if you want to keep it.

The hungry node cannot pull you off a block if you are sneaking (unless you are below the hungry node , it can pull you up and off). So you can safely approach a hungry node by sneaking on a bridge made of obsidian, and when close enough, enclose it in obsidian or Warded Glass.

Additionally Boots of the Traveler are fast enough to escape the hungry nodes pull if you can avoid the 3x3x3 box directly around it. Note that these will be necessary to get away from the node again if you do get close enough (as above) to enclose it as you will otherwise end up trapped, somewhat permanently, on the side of the box you've made.

Simply Magic contains blood magic: The Air Sigil provides enough of a velocity boost that you can fly out of a Hungry node even if it has fully sucked you in.

It also contains a number of Thaumcraft plugins - Thaumic Horizons is the one that adds a adds a device called a Vortex Attenuator that projects a beam that will turn a hungry node into a normal node for as long as the hungry node is in the beam path.

The Automagy addon includes research for "Advanced Node Jarring" - using warded glass: Being warded it can bottle hungry nodes safely, and it also does not damage nodes the way that normal node bottling does.
