Humus Farm Help

Ok so I have set up a tree farm and I wanted to give it an infinite source of humus and saplings. The saplings is really easy to do, I just set up pipes that ran back into the Arboretum.
My problem is making the humus. I currently have apples going into a squeezer with a chance of making mulch, transferring the mulch to a Carpenter. I also have saplings transferring to a auto crafting table making plant balls which then the plant balls transferring to a macerator creating dirt. Now the dirt will also go into the Carpenter.
Now here is where I'm stuck. I cannot get the dirt and mulch to go into the bottom section of the Carpenter to make my Humus. No matter where the pipe goes, even using Hopper, the dirt and Humus will end up at the top slot of the Carpenter.
Can anyone help me with this Humus part?

Well, first I have to ask, have you tried piping in from all sides, and are you using BC pipes or RP tubes?

Also, there is a solution that I have that could work, but would be too expensive for a single carpenter, so I want to exhaust other setups first.

Edit: Also, from looking on the wiki for the carpenter, you have to pipe in items from the sides.

Another Edit: Or, apparently you can plop a chest next to it and it will draw items directly from there.

I am using BC pipes.
I already tried piping the items to every side, it always end up on the top slot and I also tried putting a chest beside the Carpenter and piping items into the chest. But the items just stay inside the chest.

Hmm, I'm gonna see if I can find that post on how to atumate carpenters that was posted here before, brb.

Edit: In the mean time, make sure you're giving it water for the recipe and set up a pipe to automatically draw items from it.

Edit Again: Also, do you have an engine attached to it?

Yes I have two engines attached to it to receive enough power, and I have the infinite water + pump set up for the recipe. Now I just need the items to go into the right slot to fill up the recipe inside the Carpenter to make Humus

Found the quote, took a bit cause the search wasn't helping me find it so I just went through threads I posted in :X

Needs output but u can diamond pipe it to split off the mulch from mycelium (which I don't have a use for yet, since no mushroom farm) and send the mulch to a carpenter.

Edit - Oh and before we get onto carpenters and piping, it took me a while to figure out how to get it to work. What I mean by that is when I piped in any item it went into the carton slot in the carpenter. I eventually figured out that you HAVE to have a recipe set before those recipe items dropped into the inventory section at the bottom. You pipe in any other item which is not in the recipe and it will go to the carton slot.

Ohhh okay, thanks for your help ! The problem was I didn't pipe water into the Carpenter just yet.
