Huge drop in FPS from DW20 1.6.4 to 1.7

I'm not sure what I can do / change.

The kids' computer isn't a beast of a machine by any standard. AMD FX-6300 with a Radeon R7 260X and 8Gb of RAM. It was able to play DW20 1.6.4 around 30ish FPS. Now trying to play 1.7 it's unplayable, less than 5 FPS mostly 1 or 2. I even tried installing Optifine to see if it would make a difference. It didn't. The game doesn't seem to be maxing out the CPU and even dug into a hole and the FPS was still 2ish.

The computer is running windows 8.1 and I just updated the video drivers today (it also didn't make a difference).

What else can I try to make this playable?

The main cause is probably that 1.7 is terrible at performance. Also the reason why MC doesn't max out the CPU is that MC isn't multicore. Since your CPU has six cores, MC can't use more than a sixth of your CPU.

iirc it is 2.(1 for MC, 1 for Java GC)

I actually noticed a considerable FPS increase. Though, Monster is considerably much more heavy than DW20.

Remove Journey map.
I have found this map to cause lag.

On my daughters low-end laptop (only 4 gigs and such) performance with 1.7.10 is MUCH better compared to 1.6.4. But only with fastcraft and optifine installed. But results may vary of course.

i thought Optifine had bugs with ftb packs

That's mostly fixed in 1.7.

Just had a guy on a server i play on have to remove optifine from a render bug with AE2.
Its seems to still cause crashes

Installed fastcraft on server and the kids PC. Made a 30ish FPS difference. I'm not sure what that little mod does but it worked.

Optimizes computations. I don't know specifics, I just read what the thread said. It might similar to this other program which optimizes distance computations on a basis of trigonometric principles. I forgot what that was called though... FPS+?

Fastcraft-Ported 1.8 rendering code to 1.7.10
Optifine-Regular fast math and stuff but I've got a massive boost when swapping over the mipmap to Linear however once in a while if you change over you may crash due to a rendering error between Optifine and some other mod (Its not as much as a crash as it is a freeze that lasts forever).
