In the launcher there are currently 3 different packs ran by the FTB team is in charge of that will need work and updating. [Magic world, mindcrack, direwolf] According to all the dev news I have heard there will be at least 3 more. [Lite, ultimate, a new tech pack] I was wondering if any of these packs would be eventually dropped as ultimate nears release? I do some programming work myself so I know having 6 projects to have to mess with all at the same time can be a nightmare. Especially since an update to one mod, or minecraft itself, would have to be pushed out to all the mod packs since they are so similar. As much as I love direwolf and the mindcrack group, I'd much rather play with a "vanilla" experience in FTB instead of a pack a YT group has tailored to their liking, and while I understand giving us these packs to hold us over for the time being, I don't think it is fair if in the future they steal development away from the three new "vanilla" FTB packs that will be coming. Just some thoughts of mine, was wondering if anyone had any information or thoughts of their own?

I'm sure the team have considered this, but the way I'd do it (and I haven't put any thought into this) is that you only really need to maintain the ultimate pack and then all the other packs are just cut down versions of this one pack, ie. they all have the same configs and no additional mods than the ones in the ultimate pack. This would make maintaining so much easier as then you just update the ultimate pack, then for the other 5 or so packs just remove the not needed mods.

I suppose that could work, but I know for a fact that the direwolf mod has different mods than the mindcrack one that conflict. Such as solar arrays and advance solar panels. I suppose that'd work for the lite, tech, and magic packs though.

As far as i know the Beta pack A will be dropped unless changed

Mod Pack Team
There will be the people that will be looking after the packs and they have been doing an awesome job so far. They also have the FTB team they can ask for help if needed ;)

Why is there so many packs FTB is we want people to have a choose as in what they want to play. :)

Yeah I knew the beta was being dropped :) Thanks for the information that people looked after the packs, I had thought that when it said "By The FTB Team" that it was totally falling on the FTB team to take care of the updates for all the packs.

If they create a standard for block ID usage, it becomes very easy to manage the packs. The only thing that could awkward would be blended other-parts of configs, but I'd assume that's handled by the pack-owner.

So far the only issue ive found was the mentioned compact/advanced solars id conflict.

i do realize they are both very similar mods, but since everything is ultimately a matter of preference i feel they should use different ids.

I think both are great mods, and i should be able to (easily) use both at the same time i think (plus the advanced ones are required for stuff like the ultimate solar helm)

I don't think it would be all that difficult. I imagine that as a new minecraft comes out and the mods slowly get updated they have an internal pack for each available pack on the launcher and just update the mods one by one as they get updated and once it is completed set these as the launcher packs - especially as they are having all the id's the same it shouldn't be too difficult.

There are five people in the mod pack team. All they have to do is update mods as they get updated, and make sure that the new update does not cause any issues. And with standardized configs, it should be easy after they have done it for one to do it for the rest of the packs. I don't mean to not give credit to any of the team, your doing a great job guys, thanks for all the hard work!
