I automate mine with Applied Energistics' ME automation without the need for an intermediary chest. I just have an export bus on top putting cells in, an export bus on the side putting what is to be canned in, and an import bus on the back pulling the output out. Export buses mean they are exporting from the inventory of my ME system and import means they're importing back into the inventory, so that's why those names might seem turned around if you're not familiar with ME.
I keep seeing people doing this. Save yourself a few resources and crafting time. On any machine that can auto output such as TE, GregTech, Factorization routers, item tesseracts etc..just use an ME interface block instead of an import bus. You can put 5 machines on 1 of them with one side connected to the cable and it will draw for all of them. I have found it very useful and space saving in a few places.
Here's some good setups I stumbled on while playing around. This is becoming my favorite mod quickly. Auto crafting solar panels.....
ME interface on the bottom of a farm hatch and export bus set to fertilizer make Forestry farm run maintenance free.
Export buses keep frames filled in my alvearies while interface block inputs everything
Item tesseract from my apiaries feeding into the interface block
Left interface has recipes like basic and advanced ME assemblies, glass, etc.. Te pulverizers feed the main output to a furnace each and the bonus dusts get fed into the middle furnace. All 3 eject into one interface.
Here one is exporting into a relay. Might be able to use it to export on 5 sides to multiple machines similar to the way it inputs in the above picture
