After a month or so of waiting for an official FTB pack I grew tired. I wanted to play SSP in a 1.5.x pack, with most of the mods from the FTB Ultimate, and some new ones that became popular with 1.5
So I spent several hours of my time to put together an instance with MultiMC, just for myself. I arrived to the point where everything seems to be running perfectly, and I have most mods I care about. There were plenty of hurdles along the way, so I decided to share my final result with anyone who is in the same situation, but don't want to spend days figuring it out. With the info in this thread you should be able to create the same pack for yourself in about an hour or so.
- MultiMC: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1000645-multimc-43-windows-linux-mac/
Download it, Run it!
Either create a new instance with 1.5.2 Minecraft version (MultiMC requires your login/password to actually download the game), or Import existing .minecraft folder (in this case you already have a vanilla game, this way MultiMC doesn't need to download it, so you can play offline instantly).
Right-click your instance, go to Edit mods.
In the Minecraft.jar tab click the MCForge button on the right side, select a Forge version and click OK. I'm using 7.8.0.705, because that was the latest one when I started to build the pack. If you try to use a different build, you might end up with conflict problems. Some mods might not support the newest versions yet, while the newest versions of some other mods might need that latest forge.
In the Coremods and the Mods tab you need it put all the .zip and .jar mod files you'll download. Core mods go to the coremods tab (I only have 5 here: CodeChickenCore, CoFH Core, immibis-microblocks, NEI and PowerCrystalsCore), the rest of the mods all go to the Mods tab.
- My Mod list:
Please note, that some of the mods only support 1.5.1, but everything I link here works for me in 1.5.2. Now I wasn't testing much yet, so I don't know how buggy some of these are. All I can say is that I haven't met any critical issues for SSP purposes.
- ChickenBones: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/909223-147152-smp-chickenbones-mods/
CodeChickenCore: 0.8.6.7 (core mod)
NEI: 1.5.2.14 (core mod)
EnderStorage: 1.4.2.7
ChickenChunks: 1.3.2.8
- NEI Plugins 1.0.8.13: https://bitbucket.org/mistaqur/nei_plugins/wiki/Home
- IndustrialCraft 2: http://ic2api.player.to:8080/job/IC2_lf/
I'm using build 311 (so 1.115.311-lf), because all the newer ones seem to conflict with NEI plugins, but build 311 works, and it seem to be fresh enough for all the IC2 plugins (I care about).

Since registration is free, I assume that hiding the "public beta" is not an intention, so I'll risk putting the direct link here for the download: http://www.mediafire.com/?ddasttoj120iosd

- Forestry 2.2.4.0: http://forestry.sengir.net/wiki.new/doku.php?id=main:deprecatedversions
Forestry seem to have all sorts of compatibility difficulties. 2.2.4.2 (the newest version currently) needs a very recent forge, which might not work with everything else. Some versions also have issues with certain NEI plugins versions. In the end 2.2.4.0 seem to work alright, except extrabees doesn't yet have a version that works with that. But ThaumicBees does.

Mods I don't have:
- Redpower2: obviously
- There is no Mystcraft for 1.5.2 yet
- There is no Xycraft for 1.5.x yet
- There is no Xeno's Reliquary for 1.5.x yet
- Anything from iChun (PortalGun, GravityGun, Hats...). Nothing personal, it's just that these mods crashed my game in various ways (NEI plugins issue, memory issue, general lagging out). I gave up on testing it out properly, I leave that for the experts. Instead I decided that I can live without them.
- Anything else I missed out, is beacuse I either don't know it, find it unnecessary or just forgot.
If you're done, it's time to do the configs:
- ID conflicts: any time your game doesn't start, and you see two mods and an ID number in the errorlog, you go to the configfile of one of the mod mentioned (rightclick the instance -> View Folder -> minecraft -> config) and change the number. As far as I can remember the only things I had to change were the enderstorage (241 -> 251), the chickenchunkloader (243 -> 252) and the saw in immibis's core.
- Ore generation: Thermal Expansion can handle the generation of Copper, Tin, Nickel, Lead and Silver, you can tweak the amount in the ThermalExpansion.cfg (in the cofh folder) the way you want. After that disable tin and copper in the forestry common.cfg, disable silver in factorization.cfg and disable copper and tin in IC2.cfg.
Gregtech supports biomes o' plenty, which means that some of the biome names are hard coded to generate certain gregtech ores, while some has none. If you have any actual data on this, or any way that lets you tweak it, please let me know.
My experience was that when I didn't even make it to the main menu, I had an id conflict. When I crashed during loading the world, I had incompatible mods. You can check out the error log in MultiMC, which can help to indentify the mod that's causing it. Or not.
If you found a bug in any of the mods, create a new instance with the latest forge, with the latest version of the mod (and any of its dependencies). If the bug persist, report it to the modmaker through the appropriate channel, describing the bug the best you can, with included screenshots, crashlogs, etc...
