No this is not another mystcraft thread asking "how to make the perfect age" or "why do I keep getting instability?" This is straight up: "I want a specific instability. How do I get it?!"

I've googled the #%^ out of this and all I get is answers to the first questions. But I want instability. I want exactly this:

Sun exposed effects like poison, slowness and even suffocation (the underwater kind) when exposed to sun!

Why? I want to create a space age with ill effects to those exposed outside. I don't want people to wander around outside the spaceship without proper protection! And no, I can't install galacticraft as 8/10 people on my server can't install anything manually. I'm stuck with FTB Ultimate (1.4.7)

I've looked inside the data files with a NBT explorer and I haven't seen anything other than "scorched" as a string. Sure scorched would work, but I was hoping to be able to avoid fire damage.

Summary, how do i add:
1. Slowness when exposed to the sky?
2. Is there a way to have the "drowning" effect when sky exposed?
3. Other effects when you're exposed to the sky (anytime of day)? Only night? Only sun?

I have a decent understanding of mods, the NBT data, and I can create many sorts of stable ages... But this one alludes me!

Thanks a million in advance!

Afaik instabilities are purely random only defined by allowed instabilities in config (you can turn off those you don't want, or all of them). Slow mining is always applied even when you are not exposed to sun, so my only solution would be making ages on random until you get what you want, but you would probably like to delete failed ages after you done.

Is the age just labelled unstable and afterwards just picks at random which instability to apply (from the "allowed" list).

Is the instability type purely random at creation? Does it remain constant or does it change each time you visit?

Can I disable all instabilities except the ones I want, wait for an age to be created with the appropriate instability, and then re-enable them?

Like I said, stable ages are simple to me. Haha.

Theres certain pattern of symbols which must be followed to make age 'stable', every error in pattern provides single random instability from the list of allowed instabilities. Theres also some symbols which invoke instability (dense ores, accelerated)

Instabilities are mostly stable but theres a bug in 0.10.0 which may apply new instabilities on second entrance.

No idea, but I think instabilities persist if you turn them off in config after world creation, so it possibly may work.

Try http://binarymage.com/wiki/doku.php?id=writing:symbols for more information about symbol patterns which are required to make ages stable.

Yeah stable ages are easy now. Yes, disable all the other instabilities leaving only the ones you want (note that this will also affect worlds your users create if you allow them to create them). Then create a world that would normally be incredibly unstable/instantly decaying and it will instead just have all those instabilities. Things like many pages of dense ores, rare blocks, extra random dangling modifiers on the end, etc. I don't believe drowning is one of the possible instabilities, but you may be able to replicate this effect with some carefully positioned command blocks.

Good call! I completely discounted command blocks!

I forgot: the "/effects" command is 1.5+. Is there anything I can do in 1.4.7?

MCEdit filter?
Can I make invisible water?! This would be ideal actually. Slowed movement and drowning!

There is a Misc peripherals Player Detector, though I have no clue what that one does...

Gregtech:
http://feed-the-beast.wikia.com/wiki/Playerdetector

Detects a player within 16 blocks and emits a signal (though requires a constant stream of power). With the size of my ship, placing these detectors every 32 blocks would be crazy!

Also, what command would I use to cast an effect on a person. Remembering that I don't have the "/effect" command. Can I MCEdit filter one in?

Command blocks can detect players without the need for further blocks. You may want to reference some youtube videos on their use as they are quite powerful. I didn't realize you weren't using one of the newer packs though, so my advice may be of limited utility.

interesting idea how you going to get the sky looking right ?
That was the easy part!

Void
Zero length End (Dark/Normal) sun
Double length Rising Normal moon
Black Sky color
Black Fog

The stars always show because the sun never rises!

Looks really good actually, I'll post pictures when I can get back on my PC.

Here's what I was able to pull off... Though I'm putting the "space effects" on the back burner until I can figure something out...

I have hallowed the thing out and am going to make it fully operational (from reinforced hull to a working MAC gun - ALL in survival mode)

Will post pictures as I replace all of the wool with the final hull pieces!
