How to make Horizons work when I NEED 32-bit Java on my system?

Hello! A friend of mine recently started playing Horizons, and I wanted to join in. However, when I checked the launcher, Horizons was nowhere to be found. A bit of Googling suggests that because I have 32-bit Java installed alongside the 64-bit version, the launcher will refuse to admit that Horizons exists.

Unfortunately, I'm a developer, and my IDE of choice is currently Eclipse. Eclipse does not work with 64-bit Java, so I have to have the 32-bit Java on my system. Is there anything to be done? Any setting in FTB or in Windows environment variables that can be tweaked so it recognises and prefers the 64-bit Java?

Thanks a lot!

Yes, that's the one. There's also another program I have been using for a university class that is built on top of Eclipse, and possibly an older version at that; this one doesn't even start if I don't specifically point it towards the 32-bit Java.

There is a 64bit version of the Eclipse program. Would that not work with 64bit java? Check to see if the other program has a 64bit version as well.

The new updates to the launcher checks to see what versions of java you have on your system. You may get away with having 64bit then setup the launcher to use 2GB of ram. Then try and install 32bit java again. I can't say for certain that this will work and the launcher may give an error.

If it does then great and if not to get it working with 32bit java you are going to have to disable some mods and possibly turn all the video settings down to there lowest level or play the FTB Lite 2 pack that is desinged for 32bit java users.

Unfortunately the other program does not have a 64-bit version :( I tried setting the launcher to 2GB of RAM and Horizons still won't show up in the list of mods. Oh well, no Horizons for me.

Click start menu and type %appdata% into the box and in there you will find an ftblauncher folder, delete it.

If that still does not work then try the basic troubleshooting guide here.

As I have said though the horizons pack will not work well, if at all, without using 64bit java unless you disable some mods.

I deleted the ftblauncher folder, and re-downloaded the launcher to make sure I had the most up-to-date version. Now it seems to be working! Thank you for the help :)
