How to increase ram for ftb?

can anybody tell me how to increase the FTB launcher rams?
i only can reach the maximun of 1 gigabyte
and i'm not sure which tread i should post in
new to the FTB forums

If you want to use more then 1GB of ram you need the 64bit version of Java and a 64 bit operating system.

A 32-Bit OS cannot use a 64-Bit program (Java).
A 64-Bit OS can use a 32-Bit program.

Standard practice:
1. Ensure OS is 64-Bit (upgrade if nessecary).
2. Ensure program is 64-bit (upgrade if nessecary).

well then its a really sad day ....... well at least my brothers computer can run FTB smoothly
and i even tryed optifine on my computer still no use >.<

If you do not use Texturepacks then the reason for your low fps is most certainly the CPU or a too old java version.
You do not need more then 1 GB Ram for Minecraft usually.
Minecraft needs a pretty decent CPU to produce enough fps in certain areas. The 1.5 Upgrade should actually fix that kind of. Did not test it yet myself but a friend of mine told me it increases your FPS by a lot (maybe even more than double it).
