It would be more cost efficient to have it output cobble and then smelt that cobblestone, I'd say.
Probably true, but I don't use the lava for anything else really.

It takes 2 units of lava to create one smooth stone block, or roughly 500 stone blocks for a full bucket. I don't think you can smelt 500 cobble into smooth stone for one bucket's worth of lava, or in the same amount of time.It would be more cost efficient to have it output cobble and then smelt that cobblestone, I'd say.

I use an extruder feeding into a chest. Pipe the results into an autocrafting table or two and make whatever kind of stone you want.
I have a very similar setup making sandstone (cobble->sand->autocrafting table->gold chest)
If you have a bunch of free energy, though, you can probably use ANOTHER extruder to feed a magma crucible After all, you only need another bucket every 33 and 1/3 minutes. If you can't come up with 20k MJ excess over a half-hour, well, it might be time to expand!I think you may be right, actually. It's around 400eu per operation in the electric furnace, and at best lava will give you 30,000eu per source block, so yes, it is cheaper to use lava if you have a source of lava constantly cycling more lava into the system for you.

One of the things to love about TE is that with a few simple tools, you can make some truly useful things
Well, that'd be epic....but overkill for the application under discussion!!!
If you're using an igneous extruder, just have an iron tank filled with lava and have ti pumping in from the nether and tah-dah infinite lava.
Arbitrarily large amount of lava. how's that? You have a very bad definition of "infinite"
Power production, maybe? Ah well, I can't stand just cooking away my lava. It's a personal affliction. Heh.
Hehe. Well, I have 2 36 HP boilers running (one on biofuel, one on charcoal) so I really don't use my lava at all. I have 7x7x8 RC tanks full of fuel, biofuel, oil and biomass and I don't really know what to do with it. Too bad you can't make a swimmingpool out of fuel
Yeah, I've got almost six tanks full of hydrogen that I really wish I could pour into my quarry hole. That stuff would be the perfect swimming pool liquid! As a note, just in case it is not obvious, I mean in specific MineCraft's "hydrogen", not actual hydrogen. Swimming in actual hydrogen would be near-instant death by freezing. Whoo.
I'm curious as to how you'd be able to keep that much hydrogen at that temperature anyways, enough to swim in would be an extreme waste of energy.Yeah, I've got almost six tanks full of hydrogen that I really wish I could pour into my quarry hole. Aside from the fact that it would evaporate quite fast

Apparantly Minecraft's iron tanks (and Soaryn's tanks) are vacuum tanks though, so whatever.
And soaryn's tanks are going to be able to be completed from the inside now, so I guess you could technically swim in a pool of molten ender, hydrogen, or whatever your heart desires.
Ah, right, it is called "Gaseous Hydrogen", but it looks like, acts like, and pretty much is a fluid. So, no smokers at the pool, and we're good to go.
The amusing thing is that I have tried to complete a tank with myself inside more than once, hoping irrationally that it'd work that time.
Well with (whenever-the-hell-xycraft-updates) tanks, your dreams will come true!
