Import buses automatically suck items out. Unless you're thinking of interfaces. Although a wooden pipe can feed into golden pipes and those into an interface.

I know they do but I need to connect them on the sides for them to work. (I want them to output to the top.)
As far as I know, only GregTech machines are sided like that. It shouldn't have a problem pulling out of the top. That said, I usually use the top for interfaces, so I might be wrong.
For the actual mod just check if there's a valid inventory and instead of dropping the output in the output slot push it straight to that inventory.
