How to attach jacketed wire to pulverizer?

I'm trying to attach jacketed wire using red alloy wire to a pulverizer, but every time I click nothing happens, and if I click the pulverizer it just opens it up. What am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to follow this tutorial:

BUT, I cant place wires onto machine parts without opening them up... is there a special click+some button I need to do to achieve this?

You have to shift-right click to place things on openable blocks.
