Hmm, not buying it... Maybe steam as a modifier? Add a hobbyists steam engine to the tool, then place it in a basin/casting table and pour steam in to recharge it. Works like electric but without IC2. That could be interesting

Same... Maybe we could use it as a new type of obsidian or something? (High blast resistance, doesn't burn, but can be broken quickly, however doesn't drop unless using a silk touch tool)
