How much RAM should be allocated?

Hey guys! So I was wondering how much ram is recommended to have a smooth experience in FTB. Anyone have any idea?

Computer Specs:
-i5-3230M
-4GB of ram (wanting to upgrade to 8 or 12 gigs)
-64-bit Windows 8

But yeah, so if anyone could give me some answers that would be great, thanks in advance!
