Somewhere over the rainbow.
So here we are, my brother got his main computer as a server for us (he never use it to play anyways, he play on his laptop), we have 8gb of ram on that machine but how much would we need to run a server that is like Unleashed but with a couple of extra mods (would say 5-6 extra ones like MoreStorage, MoreBackpacks, Backpacks and some like that and including some MCPC+ plugins (we have Essentials and Minebackup actually) we don't plan on having a lot of players on this one since its a private family server so perhaps 2-3 at same time never more than that, but the question is how much ram we need to be comfortable on this one, I'm arguing that with the chunkloaders we have (currently not a lot but it will increase soon) 2GB isn't enough for us, but I'm not 100% sure, I see the server use around 58% right now and no one is online, but sometimes the usage drop down to 10-15% and suddenly go up to 70% without anyone online, I'm scared really of this causing issues. We have a Sandisk 128GB SSD for the drive, a 50mbps upload speed (tested and working, its on fiber network so should never ever be a problem) the CPU is an old one but I think it can handle the job its a rusty Intel Core2Quad Q6600 2.4GHZ. The main plan is we plan to start hosting 2 extra servers on this machine, we will start with 1 Vanilla server hosting for 10 players max just to see if it can handle it and if we can make money out of this, we might upgrade the machine and have a beast with 64GB of ram and 2xXeon running on multiple Raid SSD drives in the future. We wanted to have 16gb of ram but the motherboard (ASUS P5K-E) doesn't take more than 8GB sadly)

8GB of ram is plenty for range of 30 people. Amount of chunks loaded is usually more directly the issue then amount of players as when playing with people you know you usually stay nearer eachother so few chunks loaded.

I don't think you understand my question here, like I said, what about 2-3 players on a FTB Unleashed server, not a vanilla server, I know 8gb could contain 30 players on a vanilla Minecraft server, but windows use some to run also, I need to know how much to dedicate to my FTB Unleashed plus server its a family private server and should never have more than 2-3 players at a time but like I've said, many chunkloaders could be used and we have some multi world planned with Mystcraft and the Nether...

No I did 30 people can fit on 8GB of ram on modded server. I currently have 15 people on my unleashed server and using 4.6GB of ram and that is with alot of setup.

But my setup is about as efficient as it gets so I add on at least 20% for that then another 10-20% for being on windows. But 8GB is more then enough to get started without problems and just watch its usage and see how much you use and if its the same people going to be on only set it about 20% more then you are using.

Will try with the 2gb I have allocated on the multicraft manager (we have a legit license for 3 servers) and see, but I'm worried, there's no one online right now for 2 days and the mem is a 54% and sometimes drop down and sometimes goes up, even if no one is online, makes me nervous a little, will have to test it out...

I'm not a pro on this or anything. But i also run a private server for me and my friends. And the memory spikes that your seeing. From my opinion and experience that is just a memory spike from the world auto saving maybe. Or your world is doing chunk updates. The world still has stuff to check. like flowing water or lava. Anything that moves or does something. So there maybe time when its not as noticeable cause it might be checking chunks that have nothing going on. Then it starts checking chunks that have some thing going on. So it might spike up the usage now and then if the area is big enough. It might not be a problem. Just the game being the way it is.
