A section of the land has transformed into cracked earth? Thaumcraft maybe?

Looks like a chunk error or chunk corruption.

Might be from adding extra biomes onto a world that previously didn't have it.

This can happen when you make a world, delete it, and then make another world with the same name. Bits and pieces of the old world may survive. Are there any giant cliffs or other abrupt biome transitions nearby?
