before modloader existed/was widely support you had to drop the mods themselves in the jar (many of them were thus incompatible)"(Thank goodness I waited at least for them, I heard you had to actually modify the minecraft JAR file itself for mod installations before)"
Never understood why people found it so hard Drop modloader/forge in there, delete meta inf folder, drop the mod in and you're done. But it's soooo nice to just be able to drop all mods in one folder instead.
Well even when modloader existed you needed to put the mods in the jar? That's how I always did it. I've been using mods since 1.7 beta (ah the nostalgia) so I don't know what it was like before that. I remember that few mods actually used forge and instead used risugami's modloader.before modloader existed/was widely support you had to drop the mods themselves in the jar (many of them were thus incompatible)
For resource gathering, I suggest using either a Digital Miner from Mekanism, a Quarry from Buildcraft, or a Enderquarry from Extra Utilities. And if you are having trouble having resources in the overworld, you can always check out the Twilight Forest. Here is a dumb noobish question, I threw together a custom mod pack and put together a server for 1.7.10 Minecraft on a dedicated 4.0Ghz, 16GB RAM server system with a network of about 95/95 Mbps going up and down.
I'm ok about collecting resources (old 8-bit NES style games taught me to collect EVERY item i run across, no matter if it has a use or not, ah nostalgia!) but I am always finding myself having trouble during the "middle game?" of any type of Minecraft moddified.
Here is the question: Assume that whatever mods some use to start going from simple resource gatherings to actual working machines, what is the best mod and/or best method to "start out" with? (I.E. farming from Forestry/MineFactory Reloaded/Thermal Expansion to huge storage and resource sorting) Also, the world is an AMPLIFIED terrain, so standard resource gathering is now patchy at best. (i.e. huge pucking mountains everywhere, no different biomes ran into so far, but haven't been playing but for a few days.)
Also assume that whatever method or whatever mod that is used, I already have it (cuz if I don't have it, I can easily "Throw" it in, heh.)
Many MANY thanks for anyone reading this and replying.

Hah ! You had it easy.
The first time I tried to install a mod, I had to lookup the 27th word in the 4th paragraph of the 5th page of a specific GregTech manual that I had to find a dungeon chest.
