I'm just curious, what are the 'stages' of taint? How does it develop (assuming a start in a non-magical biome, starting from a just-placed dark node and no taint around)?

In one of the direwolf20 videos, someone mentioned that taint was created by placing a tainted node next to an obsidian totem.

I also know that there are tainted biomes that rarely spawn in worldgen.

It depends on the nodes nearby. If there's an obsidian pillar nearby, it can spawn from that, but I've also found tendrils growing on areas where the node is hidden far underground.

All experiences I've had so far with taint have been from dark nodes. Ground grows darker, plants blacken and if left to fester tendrils grow. I haven't taken it upon myself to cause a taint devastation yet, such as what happened on Forgecraft 2.

DW said the tendrils were doing the spreading and that it might help to kill them to stop the spread. Anyone test that?

There is a biome called "eerie".

Apparently it's caused by a dark node, and eventually develops into taint.
