How Do You Update Forge?

I'm wanting to play with Optifine on the Direwolf pack, but it uses Forge 515. Optifine needs 518 or higher. I've tried removing it and placing a newer version into the folder it's in, but it seems to be locked in. Anyone know how to update Forge?

It isn't locked in. Are you sure you are removing the existing MinecraftForge.zip, in Direwolf20\instMods, with a newer one?

you can try using the testing version of the direwolf20 pack (v5.1), it contains a compatible forge, but be wary, since it is a testing version you may run into bugs that no-one has encountered yet. On the other side this testing version includes 3 new mods: xeno's reliquary, modular powersuits and thaumic bees.
