How do you get iron? (Regrowth)

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm trying to complete several quests that need iron ingots, however I don't have any. I know you can get iron through iron seeds, but all I have found so far is that in order to actually make iron seeds, you need iron (or iron essence).
To follow up, where (or how) do I get iron in order to make iron seeds?

Iron essence (and most other metal essences) have a quest you can complete to get some, they usually need floral dye, some essence, and some other items at least loosely linked to the metal. They are repeatable too. I think you def need to get copper before iron, but i don't' remember the exact order.

Oh right - you can also mine it in the nether if you have a copper level pickaxe. But mining in the nether is dangerous....

Thank you! I'm already very close to copper seeds, so I should be able to make iron seeds soon.
