How do you change mob sounds?

Hey all. I'm trying to delete the spider sounds because I hate hearing Slurpy the Spider follow me around from my rooftop every night. Problem is, I found the sounds and deleted from the resources folder but when I launch the game they just come right back! I tried replacing them with silent .ogg files and they get restored to their original irritating copies. I can't make it go away. Does anyone here know how I might be able to do this?

I'm with you on the spiders. I would also delete the chest open/close sound. It is way too loud.
