How do they get the cool graphics?

I use Direwlf20 and I see the youtube videos where their world's graphics are amazing. How is it done, and is it something I can in DW20?
 
It works with most modpacks, though it requires Optifine which is known to cause rendering issues in some cases. Works fine most of the time, though.
