I downloaded FTB Revelation and tried to play it, but it takes 30 minutes to load whenever I try to launch it and even then it's ridiculously laggy. I'm not posting this question under bugs because I'd imagine it's just because of the size of the game--i doubt anything is wrong. Although my computer isn't slow.....

Anyway, what would happen if me and my friends bought a server? Would all the world data be stored elsewhere, and would that potentially allow even a slower computer to get onto the world more quickly and without lagging? (Since the device doesn't contain the world, wouldn't everything be a ton faster?) Or am I misunderstanding how servers work? I know of course that everyone playing on the server would have to install the modpack, but would it potentially be faster to launch if you're getting on an external server?

Thanks!

It usually helps speed up the loading process if you minimise the MC window while it’s loading ( this is what I used to do when loading Project Ozone 3 until I finally removed the Waiting Time mod).
As far as the server goes, there would be less strain on your PC with it not having to host an internal server, and the game can be kept loaded most of the time but most cheap servers suffer with lag anyways. On my old server some fairly basic redstone builds wouldn’t work properly because some of the redstone pulses were simply being lagged out.
Edit : Also with a server, you connect to that to get the world data etc, but the game itself is still running on your PC, so it’s unlikely to resolve any lag issues.
