If you don't have a dedicated IP, i would recommend talking to your host for giving you an available port to use if they allow it.

I'm having a problem with this as well. I extracted the zip into the mods folder. merged the Mods folder that's included with the one already installed on the server. I restarted the server (it's running on my home PC) but when to go http://myipaddress:8123 (yes my ports have been forwarded) I get a directory, not a map. What am I missing?

I'm not trying to view it from the same computer. I'm trying to view it from elsewhere.

The download isn't available as a zip. So there are no "two folders". I've downloaded the Forge-associated jar (Dynmap-1.8-forge-7.8.0) and put it in my plugins folder. I've started up the server and nothing happened. Anyone know what's wrong?
I'm running the Direwolf20 1.5 v1.1.2 modpack.

It goes in the mods folder, not the plugins folder.
